Job Description

Under the direct supervision of the CDC Director, plan and organize daily program activities according to the policies and philosophy of CDC, develop and supervise teaching centers that are developmentally and readiness enhanced, be actively involved in working with and interacting with children, supervise daily activities of the CDC aides, volunteers and practicum students in the unit, and prepare weekly lesson plans and organize necessary materials for the daily activities.

Essential Functions

  • Plan and organize daily program activities according to policies and philosophy of CDC.
  • Develop and supervise teaching centers that are developmentally and readiness enhanced.
  • Actively involved in working with and interacting with children.
  • Supervise daily activities of aides, volunteers and practicum students in the unit.
  • Preparation of weekly lesson plans and organizing the necessary materials for the daily activities.
  • Maintain positive discipline procedures and a calm, friendly atmosphere.
  • Provide a safe and healthy environment for the children.
  • Active involvement in mealtime, snack and bathroom routines.
  • Help with nap/rest time preparation and follow through activities.
  • Supervise and assist in housekeeping duties, clean-up, disinfecting equipment or rearranging center areas.
  • Attend staff meetings and in-service training events, participate in workshops and conferences.
  • Dispense medications as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of the Child Development Center.

Required Qualifications

  • Must meet minimum Lead Teacher requirements by State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment, prefer an AA Degree.
  • Must have patience, love and respect for children and be able to relate to their developmental stages.
  • Must be able to meet the staff requirements as set forth by the State of Kansas Department of Health and Environment including a KBI check, TB test, health assessment, references, first aid training and CPR training.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older and meet training requirements for the license capacity facility.
  • Must have or be willing to participate in early childhood education workshops and in-services in child development or early childhood education.
  • Must maintain valid driver’s license.

Physical Requirements: with or without assistance

  • Ability to lift and carry a 30-60 lb. child for a short distance.
  • Be able to bend, squat, scoop, kneel, or sit on the floor for extended periods of time.
  • Be able to move tables, chairs or large equipment as necessary.
  • Be able to use disinfectants, soaps and wear plastic gloves as needed.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
