FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Position Reports to: Compliance Liaison, Transportation Manager

Positions Supervised: N/A

Work Shift: Variable Shifts

Position Summary:

Responsible for delivering finished products to customers. Loads and unloads the trucks in a safe and timely manner according to company procedures. Minimizes delays and reports problems. Picks up supplies from vendors and assists the Shipping and Receiving Clerk in storing materials. Completes special projects as assigned.

Required to drive regional routes with up to 2 nights out a week as scheduled.

Wages starting at $18 an hour with over the road stipend.

Pay increase based on experience, annual bonuses, health, dental, vision and 401k also available.

Essential Functions

  • Local, regional and long haul runs
  • Reviews paperwork for completeness and accuracy. Checks orders for correct number of boxes, correct address, and support documentation.
  • Loads orders onto delivery truck. Follows established loading procedures.
  • Drives truck to customer loading docks as directed by delivery schedules.
  • Assists in unloading the order as required. Leaves the appropriate paperwork and secures the required signatures on delivery documents.
  • Assumes responsibility for efficiently picking up supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Picks up supply orders from vendors.
  • Loads orders onto delivery truck. Follows established loading procedures.
  • Unloads supply orders at the warehouse.
  • Stores supplies in appropriate areas. Assists warehouse personnel in proper placement of supplies.
  • Keeps management informed of area activities and of any significant problems.

Performance Measurements

  • Customer orders arrive in quality condition.
  • Deliveries correspond precisely to customer orders.
  • Professional communication exists with customers and vendors. Customers are accurately informed of order discrepancies.
  • Driving and loading functions are performed according to company standards and safety regulations.
  • Delivery schedules are precisely met. Delays are minimized.
  • Vehicles are clean and well maintained.
  • Good communication and coordination exist with area staff, related departments, customers, and vendors. Management is well informed.

Position Qualifications

Education/ Certification:Commercial Driver’s License

Required Knowledge:Knowledge of the geographical area. Understanding of company safety standards.

Skills/ Abilities:

  • Interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills
  • Good, organization skills
  • Ability to apply safety standards
  • Safe driving skills. Ability to drive large delivery trucks

Physical Activities and Requirements of this Position

Physical Strength:Medium work; exerts up to 25-60 lbs. of force loading and unloading.

Working Conditions:Worker is subject to varying inside temperatures, which includes extreme cold (temperatures at about 32 degrees). Works both inside and outside. Subject to weather. Frequent travel.

Mental Activities and Requirements of this Position

Reasoning Ability:Ability to perform common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved instructions and to deal with problems involving a few variables.

Mathematics Ability:Ability to perform very basic math skills including adding, subtracting, multiplying, and dividing two-digit numbers; to perform the four basic arithmetic operations with money; to perform operations with units such as inch, foot, and yard; ounce and pound (or their metric counterparts).

Language Ability:English reading skills. Ability to communicate in simple sentences.
