Forest Dental Products in Hillsboro is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer to develop & implement Lean Manufacturing strategies in order to ensure the facility's objectives are met in the areas of safety, quality, delivery, cost, and engagement. This position works closely with the Production Manager to meet cost reduction targets.


Organize and forecast overall cost reduction in terms of yield improvement plan, productivity improvement plan, and capacity plan.

  • Reduce waste in processes, create efficiencies, participate in continuous improvement projects.
  • Lead and train all levels of the operation on the use and practice of Lean methodology and tools.
  • Supervise a small team including leading daily tasks, evaluating performance, train & mentor.
  • Responsibility for identifying, planning, and leading the execution of Lean transformation events targeted towards improving the plant's performance on safety, quality, delivery, and cost (SQDC) as well as establishing a solid foundation around 5S & visual factory management in the workplace with process, metrics, and ownership at all levels.
  • Act as a key driver of change, supporting management/cross functional decisions by communicating the plant-wide changes to employees and helping them to learn, understand, adjust, and grow with the business's Lean transformation.
  • Proficient in the use and implementation of Lean tools including but not limited to Lean manufacturing, Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, TAKT, Kanbans/Pull Systems and Single Piece Flow.
  • Work with third parties to acquire various tooling or equipment needs to improve the workplace or support new product introduction.
  • Develop and Execute on-time delivery improvement projects for management review.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant manufacturing/engineering degree is preferred.
  • Formal training in a Lean Certification Program
  • Background in manufacturing and/or engineering environments
  • Developing and implementing new processes using manual or machine tools or modification of process equipment /system.
  • Process improvements for quality characteristics or cost reduction.
  • Experience using 6-Sigma methodologies preferred.
  • Project management of a small to mid-size / complexity value system.
  • Data analysis / reporting using Office products and statistics preferred.
