Job Description

Position Title: Shop Foreman/Dispatcher

Reports to: Service Manager

Position Summary: The Shop Foreman/Dispatcher plans, organizes, leads and controls the flow of service work through the Service Department in a professional and timely manner while ensuring quality repairs at a fair cost to the customer. Wear company approved uniform.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Maintain technician productivity at 100% or better.
  • Reduce comebacks to an acceptable level as defined by management.
  • Ensure department OSHA compliance.
  • Complete factory and OSHA training.
  • Dispatch repair orders and maintain accurate route sheet of repair orders.
  • Establish and maintain a quality control process for all work performed.
  • Ensure technicians write appropriate details of all work performed on repair order hard copy including manufacturers’ “3C’s” requirements.
  • Apply proper warranty labor operation numbers and labor time to each repair listed on repair order.
  • Maintain accurate records of technician’s productive hours and clock hours.
  • Calculate technician’s weekly payroll.
  • Provide one-on-one training and technical assistance as needed.
  • Ensure technicians follow warranty material disposition procedures.
  • Follow policies and procedures as set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  • Any other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Educational: High school diploma or the equivalent.

Experience: At least three years in automotive retail facility. One year in a supervisory capacity.

Special Skills (i.e., licenses, certifications, etc.): ASE certification preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions and information. Ability to use personal computer applications including word processing and spreadsheet software. General mechanical skills. Current valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. Occasionally required to bend, stoop, crouch, reach, and handle tools. Occasionally requires the ability to lift 40 pounds of material. Frequently works near moving mechanical parts. Is potentially exposed to battery acid, gasoline, chemical cleaning materials or other toxic materials commonly found in a motor vehicle service department. Exposed to exhaust fumes or other airborne particles.
