JOB SUMMARY This position assures the safe and efficient operation of vehicles transporting equipment and/or materials between various locations. The Driver is responsible for the daily safety inspection and routine maintenance of the vehicle being operated. This position must also keep detailed and accurate records of time spent on various jobs each day and forward this information to a foreman or appropriate office personnel for processing. The Driver will also inform the Fleet Manager of the need for regularly scheduled maintenance of the vehicle in keeping with established procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Wear personal protective equipment at all times . There is always a potential for hazards and it is imperative that proper safety precautions are adhered to at all times. Perform the daily safety inspection of the vehicle being operated, topping off fluids, cleaning windows and lubricating moving parts as needed. Promptly report any problems to the Fleet Manager Always handle the vehicle in a safe manner – within weight limit, observing established speed limits, and being aware of activity on all sides. Accurately record time spent on and between jobs on daily time sheet. Forward packing slips and time sheets to foreman or office staff for processing. Maintain current CDL license and up-to-date DOT Medical card. Measure total vehicle height before leaving a location to ensure proper clearance under bridges or other structures. Cover loads with canvas before transport to avoid debris flying from vehicle. Operate vehicle in a professional and courteous manner at all times. Ensure that regularly scheduled maintenance is performed when needed. Drive snow-removal equipment on an on-call basis. Notify the Fleet Manager of any vehicle damage or mechanical difficulties OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES Assist crew on Job sites when truck is not being operated. Call in to the office mid-day for the following day’s schedule. Fuel the vehicle at the end of each day. Follow established safety procedures on Job sites. NECESSARY KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES This individual must possess and maintain a valid CDL license, a safe driving record and pass drug-screening tests as required. Drivers must demonstrate a thorough knowledge of all applicable safety procedures and strictly follow these principles. Familiarity with the Metropolitan Boston area and the ability to read maps and follow directions are essential. This individual should also be familiar with terminology common to the heavy construction industry, and have the ability to lift and carry up to 100 pounds. TOOLS & EQUIPMENT This position involves the operation of various vehicles, including but not limited to dump trucks, tractor-trailer combinations and various other towed-behind equipment. This individual should be familiar with the use of generators and compressors, small power tools as well as hand tools. Mobile communications devices are used regularly. WORK ENVIRONMENT This is an hourly rate position that is generally scheduled from 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM Monday through Friday. There may occasionally be overtime hours beyond 3:30 and possibly on Saturdays. Protective gear is provided for use during inclement weather; however, the employee is responsible for the replacement of any lost gear. There may be days where no work is scheduled due to severe conditions. Snowplowing is scheduled on an as-needed basis. This is a moderate to high stress position based on the requirement to balance safety requirements with the need to maintain an efficient delivery schedule. PERFORMANCE STANDARDS Initial performance review may be done after 3 months of employment. Future evaluations will be done on an annual basis on or about the anniversary date of the employee. Salary increases are based on individual and company performance. Salary and benefits will be negotiated between employee and the president.
