DIRECTOR OF IMPACT

 

DOEN IS SEEKING A DIRECTOR OF IMPACT WHO IS A THOUGHT LEADER AND SEASONED EXPERT IN ALL ASPECTS OF ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL IMPACT WITHIN THE FASHION INDUSTRY.  THIS ROLE WILL CREATE AND HIT BENCHMARKS FOR ALL AREAS OF IMPACT, WHILE WORKING IN CLOSE COLLABORATION WITH INTERNAL TEAMS TO ADVANCE STRATEGIC GOALS PERTAINING TO COMPANY IMPACT.  THEY WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING THEIR OWN EXPERTISE, IN ADDITION TO IDENTIFYING AND IMPLEMENTING GLOBAL TRENDS OR STRATEGIES, FOR ECO- AND SOCIAL-CONSCIOUS APPAREL PRODUCTION AND MERCHANDISING. 

THE DIRECTOR WILL BE A KEY MEMBER OF THE COMPANY BY DEFINING AND ACHIEVING THE DEPARTMENT POLICIES AND OBJECTIVES, BY COLLABORATING WITH OTHER TEAM MEMBERS OR VENDORS, AND BY TAKING DIRECT RESPONSIBILITY FOR A VARIETY OF PROJECTS RELATED TO SET OBJECTIVES. 

THE RIGHT PERSON FOR THIS ROLE MUST HAVE COMFORT WITH AMBIGUITY, FUNCTION ENTREPRENEURIALLY, AND BE ABLE TO MAKE QUICK, WELL-INFORMED DECISIONS.  THEY WILL UPHOLD OUR COMPANY CORE VALUES AND BE WILLING TO RECEIVE AND PROMOTE CONSTRUCTIVE FEEDBACK.  HAVING EXCELLENT JUDGMENT AND CONCISE VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION IS A MUST, ALONG WITH AN ABILITY TO WORK COLLABORATIVELY, PROACTIVELY AND INDEPENDENTLY.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • DEVELOP AND MANAGE THE SUSTAINABILITY ROAD MAP, INCLUDING IMPLEMENTATION OF NEW SYSTEMS THAT ALLOW FOR MEASURING, ESG REPORTING AND IMPROVING IMPACT OBJECTIVES; CREATE AND OVERSEE DEPARTMENT BENCHMARKS
  • CREATE BENCHMARKS FOR FUTURE LINE PLANNING
  • DEVELOP, LEAD AND QUANTIFY SPECIFIC IMPACT INITIATIVES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO: CARBON FOOTPRINT TRACKING, SOURCING RESPONSIBLE FABRICS FROM ESTABLISHED CONTACTS, FARM TO MILL TRACKING, WATER USAGE, FACTORY CERTIFICATIONS, AND RECOMMERCE.
  • SUPPORT VP OF PRODUCT TO MAINTAIN INTERNAL SOCIAL COMPLIANCE METRICS AND MAINTAIN SYSTEMS FOR TRACKING THEM
  • DEVELOP MONTHLY PROGRESS REPORTING TO HOLD COMPANY ACCOUNTABLE
  • TRACE THE ORIGINS OF OUR PRODUCT, CONSIDER ETHICAL WORKPLACES IN MANUFACTURING
  • REVIEW PRODUCTION FACILITIES SOCIAL IMPACT THROUGH 3RD PARTY AUDITS & EXTERNAL TRACKING TOOLS 
  • SYNTHESIZE DATA TO FURTHER DEVELOP AND HONE THE SUSTAINABILITY STRATEGY OVER TIME, PLUS ESTABLISH A PROCESS FOR PRIORITIZATION FOR COMPANY SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS
  • WORK WITH VARIOUS INTERNAL TEAMS TO UPDATE COMPANY RESOLUTION PUBLICATIONS
  • DATA INPUT USING THE HIGG FACILITIES ENVIRONMENTAL AND BRAND MODULES - BUILD THE COMPANY MATERIALS CATALOG IN THE MSI 
  • USE THE HIGG PRODUCT MODULE TO FOOTPRINT, AND REPORT ON, A RANGE OF PRODUCTS AND PRODUCE 
  • SUPPORT DATA COLLECTION EFFORTS IN THE SUPPLY CHAIN  
  • IMPLEMENT A MINIMUM OF 2 SUSTAINABILITY PANELS/SPEAKERS A YEAR FOR DOEN STAFF
  • OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AS ASSIGNED

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A SEASONED PROFESSIONAL WITH AT LEAST 5-7 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE IN SOCIAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL POLICY WORK WITHIN THE FASHION INDUSTRY
  • SHOULD HAVE A STRONG MORAL CODE AND SENSE OF ETHICS AND EXERCISE A HIGH LEVEL OF CONFIDENTIALITY
  • SUPPLY CHAIN AND PRODUCTION KNOWLEDGE AND CONTACTS ARE A MUST, INCLUDING CONTACTS WITH RESPONSIBLE FABRIC MILLS AND PRODUCT DEVELOPMENT VENDORS
  • EXPERIENCE IN LABOR/SOCIAL COMPLIANCE AND/OR ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH & SAFETY (EHS) COMPLIANCE
  • CANDIDATE MUST DEMONSTRATE EXCELLENT MANAGEMENT SKILLS, STRATEGIC AND CONCEPTUAL THINKING, BE SOLUTION-FOCUSED, AND A TEAM PLAYER 
  • STRONG VERBAL AND WRITTEN COMMUNICATION SKILLS ARE A MUST, NEEDING TO CLEARLY PRESENT COMPLEX CONCEPTS TO TEAM MEMBERS TYPICALLY UNFAMILIAR WITH THE IMPACT LANDSCAPE
  • ABILITY TO DEVELOP AND MAINTAIN COLLABORATIVE RELATIONSHIPS WITH INTERNAL TEAM MEMBERS AND VENDORS
  • ABILITY TO WORK WITH MULTIPLE COUNTRIES AND CULTURES
  • MUST SHOW CONFIDENCE IN COMPLEX PROBLEM SOLVING: CLEARLY COMMUNICATE SETBACKS OR COMPLICATIONS, NAVIGATE PROBABLE CAUSES, AND PRESENT FORWARD-THINKING SOLUTIONS
  • MUST HAVE EXPERIENCE WORKING WITH THIRD PARTY AUDITORS AND CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS IN THE AREAS OF SUPPLY AND PRODUCTION 
  • KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING OF THE GLOBAL, REGIONAL AND LOCAL CLIMATE/ENVIRONMENTAL LEGISLATION
  • EXPERIENCE WITH THE HIGGS INDEX A MUST
