Head of Internal Sales & Advisor Business Development Annuity Products

Job Purpose:

The principal purpose of this position is to lead the internal sales desks located in Waverly, IA and Madison, WI and a team of business development consultants to direct the sales activities for CMFG manufactured Annuity products (MEMBERS Annuities). The sales desk manager located in Madison, WI, will report to the Head of Internal Sales & Advisor Business Development position. The sales desk manager will be responsible for managing the day-to-day activities of the two internal desks. The virtual business development sales team will partner with the external wholesaling team in generating new annuity deposit growth (AUM), a principal CMFG objective. This position will report to the Vice President - National Sales and will lead sales activities through registered representatives in the independent broker dealer (IBD) and financial institutions channels.

This role is responsible in collaboration with the executive leadership for strategic planning related to key business processes and technology support for all revenue producing products sold through annuity distribution. This position determines the people, process and technology needs of the business unit to maximize energies on high-gain, consistent activities.

This position requires a strong wholesaling background and ability to coach and train virtual employees to meet aggressive sales goals.

This position also requires a strong technology background with Salesforce and other technology platforms used with the Advisor Experience to include the ability to maximize wholesaler efficiency through use of these technology platforms. The role requires a solid understanding of straight-through processing and DTTC, as well as the understanding of other financial planning software systems (example eMoney).

Manager - accomplishes department objectives by managing staff; planning and evaluating department activities. Recruits, selects, orientates and trains employees; accomplishes staff results by communication job expectations; planning, monitoring and appraising job results; coaching, counseling and disciplining employees; developing, coordinating and enforcing systems, policies, procedures and productivity standards. Provides guidance and direction to a team of individuals; has ability to performance manage including hire and fire. Additional responsibilities include:

  • Partner with the external wholesaling sales team, including the Divisional Sales Managers (DSM), to execute on CMFG's wholesaling coverage model
  • Partner with product and channel marketing to assist with product positioning and training for new product launches & enhancements
  • Leading and facilitating team meetings in coordination with DSM's and National Sales Director (NSD)
  • Manage the virtual sales activities and provide leadership, training, and guidance to the business development consultant team
  • Develop and implement strategic business development consultant sales plans to accommodate product sales goals
  • Represent CUNA Mutual Group at regional and industry-related meetings and conferences
  • Accountability in fulfilling compliance requirements for the organization; monitor compliance issues to state and federal regulations

Job Responsibilities:

Job Requirements:

  • Working independently, directs virtual wholesaling sales activities within a defined geographic or product area supporting Independent Broker/Dealers, Brokerage Firms, Financial Planners and/or Banks & Credit Unions
  • Develop and recommend sales plans and budgets for the virtual wholesaling team. Successfully executes on the agreed upon plans.
  • Manage 5-20 associates who provide virtual wholesaling services.
  • This role must have the capacity to manage other people leaders as additional internal wholesaler managers are needed. This role will manage the Internal Sales Desk Manager position.
  • Assist business development consultant staff in increasing sales by developing and maintaining strong relationships within assigned work group to include the ability to identify training needs and develop and/or deliver training programs.
  • This role will hold virtual wholesaling staff accountable for:
    • Territory Sales Goals
    • Year over year territory growth
    • Outbound phone calls, Webinars, F2F appointments and other proactive sales activities
  • Ability to research and recommend technology platforms as needed to enhance business development needs
  • Full people management responsibilities including: performance management, training & development, hire & terminate
