R&D Test Engineer - Garland, TX Area

DESCRIPTION:

The R&D Test Engineer will design, develop and implement automatic test equipment and test programs for design verification and production testing as well as maintain, support and develop all production test procedures and equipment on site and in other locations abroad.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Specify and design new production test equipment by understanding new products in Development.
  • Work closely with the R&D, Production, Quality, Engineering, and Production Engineering teams.
  • Create test design documentation including test instructions, specifications, drawings and verification plans.
  • Provide technical support to manufacturing including hands-on debug of test systems and production failures.
  • Contribute to project plans by providing timeline estimates.
  • Provide cost estimates for test systems.
  • Support the Company’s production engineering objectives with regard to new product introduction, process improvement and lean manufacturing.
  • Design and application experience of production test equipment.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelors degree in electronics or related disciplines.
  • Must be proficient in reading and developing schematics.
  • Must have strong background in electronics troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis.
  • Experience developing and supporting automated test hardware and software in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in the complete test development life cycle of products.
  • Understanding of production processes.
  • Experience using tools such as oscilloscopes, function generators, DMM, for failure diagnosis at the hardware level.
  • Ability to solder, including building prototype/test boards by hand with SMT components down to 0603 size using a microscope.

Preferred

  • Capable of performing basic board layout and assembly for test fixture PCBA’s using tools such as Altium, Allegro, or other free PCB editor tools a bonus.
  • Experience in writing test applications using the following tools or equivalent:
    • C# .NET, Python, or similar
  • Experience of PCB design and assembly for test fixtures (Design For Testability).
  • Physical interface and electro-mechanical fixture design strongly desired.
  • Experience using test executives or sequencers to create test procedures preferred.
  • Knowledge / experience of Lean Manufacturing, Kaizen, and 5S would be an advantage.
  • Basic knowledge/experience with 2D/3D CAD tools.
