As we are on the cusp of announcing industry partnerships and approaching commercialization, we are looking for a skilled Thermal Mechanical Engineer to join our team.

What you will be doing OR Job Details:
You will work collaboratively on a team of highly skilled PhDs, Physicists, Chemical, Optical, Electrical and Materials engineers. You will design high-temperature products used in commercial applications. You will be responsible to design products that meet performance, cost, and schedule specifications. And you will perform conceptual design, prepare design sketches and layouts select raw materials and develop component/subsystem specifications.
You will work with high temperature materials (think ceramic components under stress) and design components using thermal and mechanical FEA analysis.
Perform first order hand calculations of the analysis tasks prior to conducting FEA analysis
Perform tolerance analysis to ensure intended assembly performance
Design experiments, conduct laboratory testing and utilize lab and field test data to verify designs against requirements and validate analytical models
Perform first-order hand calculations and CFD/FEA to model component and subsystem performance, including mechanical stress analysis, flow and heat transfer analysis, steady-state and transient analysis, etc.
Create fabrication drawings for component/sub-system and other mechanical assemblies
Play a role in the evaluation of next generation designs and communicate parametric trade-offs and engineering constraints to the R&D and Engineering teams
What you need for this Position:
Because of the creative thinking required for this role, we believe you should have a master's degree or higher in Physics or Mechanical Engineering or related. In some cases, a Bachelor's degree and the appropriate experience will satisfy this requirement.
This is a hands-on role, and you should be comfortable using CAD tools for your own designs and to help the engineers on your team with their complex mechanical models, fabrication drawings and assembly drawings.
You should also have:
Solid understanding of heat transfer (conduction, convection, and radiation) and mechanics of materials
Demonstrated hands-on experience with thermal CFD and FEA using analysis tools such as Solidworks and ANSYS
Experience with utilizing laboratory and field test data to correlate and validate analytical models
5+ years of mechanical design engineering experience for industrial and commercial applications
- Deep understanding of heat transfer
- Experience with materials at 1000+ degrees Celsius
- 3+ years of design and analysis of thermal systems
Understanding of manufacturing processes (DFM/DFA)
Experience performing thermal & mechanical modeling of braze assembly components
Experience with compact heat exchangers
Familiarity with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) and its application toward the creation of fabrication drawings for mechanical parts
Experience working in a startup environment
Some exposure to Python
