Minimum two-year technical degree in Engineering or related field
Minimum three-years experience in Fire Alarm / Life Safety Design
AutoCAD experience required and current; Revit experience desired
Minimum of five years of previous engineering, field service, construction
We are currently seeking a Fire Alarm Designer to join our Engineering Team here in the Greater Seattle Area. This full-time position will design, engineer and document medium, and large sized Fire Alarm systems with moderate to higher levels of complexity according to project requirements. As a Fire Alarm Designer, your design expertise may be required in support of pre-sales activities to identify, scope, and estimate cost effective solutions that meet customer requirements. You will work with Project Management to ensure engineering deliverables accurately reflect project scope; you will guide and mentor drafters on your project team to ensure the accuracy of our engineering drawings. You will monitor resource efforts are within the project budget and schedule. You will work closely with Sales and Project Management to identify changes in scope that warrant customer clarification and scope management in support of the budget.
As a NICET Certified Fire Alarm Designer, you are a leader amongst peers; you collaborate with peer designers for continuous development of engineering standards, best practices, and operational efficiencies. You provide Fire Alarm expertise and design guidance to our CAD engineers, and serve as a mentor when needed. In this role, you will proactively communicate with colleagues, vendors, consultants and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Additional responsibilities include:
Provides code compliant fire alarm design and drawing assistance for projects during the development and record drawing stages of the engineered drawings. Design shall include both addressable networked systems and conventional fire alarm systems.
Performs circuit and battery calculations.
Prepares code compliant fire alarm drawings using AutoCAD or Revit software, as needed.
Obtains electronic plans from engineers/architects/owners. Prepares formal submittal booklets, containing schematics, technical literature, record drawings and O&M manuals per project requirements as necessary to support each contract.
Participates in internal design review meetings and submits detailed project drawings to the project manager for review.
Liaises with other members of the project team as directed and required.
Participate in project turnover meetings with both sales and project team. Provide project team with all documentation, programming graphics, etc. per project requirements.
Obtain project design information as required from vendors, insurance carriers, owners, consultants and AHJ as required.
Advance technical skills and experience related to Fire & Life Safety systems
Knowledge/expertise in AutoCAD
Strong skills in reading and understanding construction drawings, architectural and electrical layouts and diagrams
Strong knowledge of electrical/electronic theory and components
Exceptional customer focus and ability to work under pressure; ability to maintain awareness of, and seek to meet the needs and wants of the customer without being prompted
Strong verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously
Strong computer skills including Microsoft SharePoint and the MS Office suite of applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
NICET certification II desired, III a plus
Knowledge of Smoke Control a plus
Revit experience a plus
EST Certification a plus
