We are looking for a Configuration Manager, to maintain information about configuration items required to deliver an IT service, for large scale projects, including the. Communications Based Train Control system, on behalf of the Bay Aera Rapid Transition (BART).

BART connects the San Francisco Peninsula with Berkeley, Oakland, Fremont, Walnut Creek, Dublin/Pleasanton, and other cities in the East Bay. For more than 45 years, BART has provided fast, reliable transportation to downtown offices, shopping centers, tourist attractions, entertainment venues, universities, and other destinations for Bay Area residents and visitors alike.

 

Job Description

 The Configuration Manager will have the ability and authority to ensure daily end-to-end delivery of Configuration Management services in accordance with this Configuration Management Plan. This involves managing the functional requirements, design, and operational information throughout each product’s lifecycle. You will also develop migration plans and help oversee deployment.

  • Provide support to project teams in configuring and base-lining project items.
  • Prepare configuration documentation and maintain Configuration Management (CM) database.
  • Review and recommend improvements to existing CM processes.
  • Maintain data quality, integrity, and security of CM database.
  • Schedule audits on CM database and assists in implementing audit recommendations.
  • Develop security guidelines to avoid unauthorized damage or usage of project items
  • Work with configuration teams in the development and enhancement of CM tools.
  • Assist in the management, maintenance, and automating of CM tools.
  • Maintain proper version controls of software deliverables.
  • Oversee the delivery of software applications in test and deployment environments.
  • Analyze configuration issues and propose appropriate resolutions.
  • Manage the day to day activities of the process, including establishing priorities and work assignments
  • Track compliance to policies and procedures and resolving/escalating any compliance issues
  • Facilitate Configuration Management audits
  • Review critical incident outage resolution results and responses and dispositions of failed changes due to CMS related issues
  • Engage with strategic projects to ensure Configuration Management can deliver required CMS functionality within project timeframes
  • Review and approve all changes to the CMS infrastructure where applicable
  • Review and approve significant IT infrastructure changes to ensure impacts to configuration management data are properly addressed

 

Skills & Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field
  • Master’s degree a plus
  • Experience with configuration management tools
  • Experience managing complex IT projects
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office products
  • Experience with MEARS preferred
  • Experience with Configuration Management databases desired
  • Knowledge of working in a government environment, especially Railcar/Transit.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with various personnel, including dealing with people effectively and tactfully in difficult and stressful situations
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills, attention to detail and ability to work under time pressure
  • Knowledge of working in a government environment, especially Railcar/Transit.
  • Solid organizational skills, including multitasking and time-management
  • Strong client-facing and teamwork skills
  • Demonstrate the ability to independently organize and carry out assignments with minimum direction as well as the ability to function effectively as a leader of highly professional personnel
  • Able to work well with others including, contractors, agency personnel and the public
