Position Summary
Under the direction of the Manager of Internal Audit, the Internal Audit Intern is responsible for assisting with audit services to add value and improve Cooperative operations, risk management, control, and governance processes. The Internal Audit department provides independent, objective assurance and consulting services that support management in achieving the Cooperative's mission and objectives.

Under the direction of the Manager of Internal Audit, the Internal Audit Intern is responsible for assisting with audit services to add value and improve Cooperative operations, risk management, control, and governance processes. The Internal Audit department provides independent, objective assurance and consulting services that support management in achieving the Cooperative's mission and objectives.
Essential Job Functions
- Under direct supervision, assist with compliance, financial, or operational audits of structured programs and business operations which includes the:
- Planning and development of audit objectives and program,
- Design and implementation of audit test processes,
- Preparation of work papers,
- Identification, development, and documentation of audit observations and recommendations for issues identified and for business process improvements, and
- Communication of audit results via written reports and oral presentations.
- Under direct supervision, assist with follow-up on previous audits to ensure appropriate action is being taken on recommendations.
- Under direct supervision, assist in the facilitation of audits performed by external parties.
- Promote a culture of accountability and ethics.
- Work with all levels of company management in the performance of required duties and maintain positive relations with internal and external parties.
- Obtain a basic understanding of the Cooperative's business units, operations, and accounting policies.
- Comply with the Institute of Internal Auditor's Professional Practices Framework (Code of Ethics and the International Standards for the Professional Practice of Internal Auditing).
- Demonstrate a commitment to professional growth by actively seeking relevant education and training opportunities, and exhibit readiness to accept new challenges.
- Travel to company sites for Internal Audit activities.
Education:
- Current enrollment in Bachelor's or higher degree program - Accounting
- Current enrollment in Bachelor's or higher degree program - Business Administration
- Current enrollment in Bachelor's or higher degree program - Finance
- Have obtained classification at a Junior Level. Minimum GPA: 3.0 (4.0 = A)
Experience Requirements:
- None Required
Certifications and Licensures:
- Desire to obtain Certified Public Accountant
- Desire to obtain Certified Internal Auditor
- Successfully pass a security sensitive background check - Required
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
- Basic knowledge of GAAP, financial accounting, audit methodologies and techniques, and process improvement strategies.
- Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication and presentation skills.
- Professional approach with a high level of discretion and confidentiality when dealing with staff, management, and third-parties.
- Competent in prioritizing time and workload requirements.
- Self-starter able to work under direct supervision, as well as ability to work with others in a team environment.
- Experience in regulated utility environment is a plus.
Work Schedule
- Must be able to work up to 19 hours per week between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., M-F
