Cooper Design Build is a Portland, Oregon based residential remodeling company. We’ve been in business for over 30 years. We offer in-house design & drafting services to compliment our construction team. We are seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team and to help us continue to grow our company.

The Position

Estimator - Residential Remodeling

The chosen candidate will provide support to the Design and Sales Team. We are seeking a self-motivated, organized person with the flexibility to change direction as needs shift. Attention to detail is a must in addition to excellent communication and people skills.


Estimating Responsibilities

Produce 3 estimates per project.

  • Preliminary estimate based on the design phase
  • Allowance based estimate by phase of construction at the end of the design phase
  • Final estimate based on subcontractor and supplier bids at the end of the pre-construction phase.

Create and maintain a detailed pricing spreadsheet of materials and labor for each phase of construction

Create and maintain a more broad based “square footage” pricing spreadsheet to assist sales in the preliminary quick cost studies for new projects.

Work with the designer(s) of each project to develop the scope of work to be completed by each sub/supplier and review for accuracy..

Meet with subs/suppliers during a walk-through to acquire the needed estimates per phase per project.

Subcontractor/Supplier Responsibilities

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with our Subcontractors and Suppliers

Expand our pool of quality subcontractors and suppliers per phase

Produce 2-3 bids per phase for each project that is estimated

Requirements and Talents


Required: High School Diploma
Preferred: Bachelor Degree


Required: A minimum of 3 years construction/estimating experience. Experience with remodeling is a plus.

Skill, Knowledge, and Abilities

Ability to read building plans and specifications.

Ability to do quantity takeoffs from building plans.

Ability to do accurate lumber takeoffs.

Understanding of Oregon building code requirements.

Competent written communication skills - this position will require a great deal of e-mailing and a decent speed of typing is required

Great interpersonal skills - a pleasant and friendly phone demeanor is needed

Competent computer user - must know how to use Microsoft Excel skillfully

Need to work well in team environment as well as on your own.

Must provide insured vehicle, maintain valid drivers license and able to work flexible hours.
