Continental Cement Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Summit Materials, Inc. (NYSE: SUM), is a cement manufacturer headquartered in Chesterfield, Missouri with cement plants in Hannibal, Missouri and Davenport, Iowa. The Company has distribution facilities along the Mississippi River stretching from Minnesota in the north to Louisiana in the south. Cement has been manufactured at their Hannibal site since 1903.

The Accounting Manager will report to the CFO and will be based in Chesterfield, MO.

Position Responsibilities

Financial Reporting:

  • Lead the coordination of the month-end close process, including reporting results to Summit Materials

  • Prepare monthly management reports and quarterly GAAP financial reports

  • Ensure that all transactions and reconciliations are reported accurately and timely (accounts payable, accounts receivable, invoicing, payroll, fixed assets, journal entries, etc.)

  • Approve and set up new vendors in the accounting system, while adhering to all internal controls

  • Complete credit checks for new customers and provide credit reporting on existing customers

  • Research technical issues for GAAP compliance as they arise

  • Provide support for external and internal audit functions

  • Ensure the documentation and implementation of controls in current and new processes are in compliance with Sarbanes Oxley

  • Develop a thorough understanding of Summit’s accounting policy and ensure compliance

  • Manage the overall budget process in addition to creating the SG&A budget for the Company

  • Manage and direct work activities for the accounting and payroll team

Other:

  • Supervise and review work of staff accountants for month-end close and other special projects

  • Develop process improvements and partner with process owners to drive automation to accelerate the month end close timeline

  • Develop a detailed understanding of the operating companies’ core businesses

  • Super-user on ERP and Consolidation systems (Viewpoint and Hyperion, respectively)

  • Develop/maintain working relationships with operating company finance managers and general management

Position Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting

  • 5 or more years of progressive finance experience with at least 3+ years in a supervisory capacity, preferably in the manufacturing industry

  • A solid foundation of accounting principles (US GAAP)

  • Demonstrated ability to form, lead and develop high performing teams

  • Proven ability to manage within a geographically diverse business

  • CPA preferred

  • Solid communication skills, both oral and written

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment, prioritize appropriately and handle multiple tasks simultaneously

  • Ability to travel with minimal notice

  • Proficient with various accounting software (Viewpoint and Hyperion experience preferred) and advanced Microsoft Excel skills

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

  • Demonstrated business process experience a plus
