Job Description

Consolidated Engineering Laboratories, an Atlas company, has an immediate opening for an Concrete / Asphalt Laboratory Technician -Test Technician. The successful Lab Tech will performs laboratory tests to determine physical characteristics or composition of construction materials for such purposes as quality control, process control, or product development by performing the following duties. This is a Local 3 certified laboratory technician role.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Familiar with ASTM, Caltrans, or AASHTO test methods relating to concrete, aggregate, soils, asphalt, reinforcing steel, and/or masonry testing. ACI Grade I certification or other certifications as may be required to perform necessary testing. Sets up, adjusts and operates laboratory equipment and instruments related to respective lab testing. Prepares materials for testing as may be required by the specified test procedure. Assist lab in performing annual audits and proficiency sample testing from outside certification companies such as AMRL/CCRL/ etc. Answers telephone, respond to emails, and talks to clients regarding sample testing and test results. Cleans and sterilizes laboratory equipment daily. When directed, performs periodic maintenance of laboratory equipment. Review of test procedures and documentation of test results is performed by the supervisor for conformance to established policies and procedures. Performs supervision over lower level technicians as assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Prefer ACI certification in any of the following, but not limited to: Concrete Field Testing/Strength, Aggregate Base, Aggregate Testing, and Masonry Lab Testing

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

In order to perform the duties described above, ACI Lab Technician certification is required. The technician realizes that ACI or NICET certification is encouraged and the company will share in the cost of such certifications. Other certifications may be a required in the future.

The employee frequently is required to use hands to lift or move samples, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. PPE is required at all times.
