JOB DESCRIPTION


Title: Senior Accountant

Department: Finance

Reports To: Controller

Position Location: Novato, CA - hybrid schedule negotiable

FLSA Status: Salaried, Exempt from Wage and Hour Laws

Salary Range: $80,000 - $84,000 Annually



SUMMARY

Conservation Corps North Bay (CCNB) is the oldest local nonprofit youth conservation corps in the country. Serving Marin and Sonoma Counties since 1982, CCNB has helped thousands of young people achieve their goals through education and job skills, while serving the environment and community. CCNB is a dynamic organization with a current annual budget of $10M consisting primarily of grant and contract revenue. An integral part of a five-person team, the Senior Accountant is responsible for ensuring the accuracy of company financial data in the general ledger and that it complies with professional and regulatory standards. The ideal candidate has extensive experience with non-profit fund accounting, job costing, journal entries and audits. Sage Intacct and Paycom experience preferred.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


General Ledger

  • Full charge of all aspects of the accounting system General Ledger. Sage Intacct strongly preferred
  • Monitor, reconcile and maintain documentation for all Balance Sheet accounts
  • Ensure a timely month-end close processes, including journal preparation for
      • Prepaid insurance
      • Depreciation
      • Right of Use Assets (vehicle lease)
      • Indirect allocation
      • All other non-payroll related Journal Entries
      • Allocation of indirect costs
  • Review Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable batches to ensure all entries are properly coded to the correct GL account, department and grant codes
  • Year-end close
  • Depreciation and amortization schedules, manage fixed assets
  • Prepare or assist with audit schedules
  • Regular account analysis to ensure the accuracy of data

Cash Management

  • Transfer funds to meet bill pay and other payment requirements
  • Post banking entries to General Ledger
  • Reconcile bank statements monthly & maintain banking workbooks

Audits and Reporting

  • Maintain proper and complete backup documentation and be able to explain cost allocation methodology when asked
  • Assist the Controller with annual financial and grant audits, and tax prep
  • Assist with preparation of schedules and documentation needed by auditors
  • Prepare monthly financial reports
  • Prepare ad hoc reports as requested

Other

  • Propose and implement process efficiency improvements
  • Serve as backup for Payroll Cost Accountant
  • Serve as in-office backup for Accounts Payable/Cash Receipts

QUALIFICATIONS

The Senior Accountant has proven expertise in technical general ledger accounting, experience with annual audits and a keen eye for errors and inconsistencies.


SKILLS, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Advanced, non-profit technical accounting experience
  • Advanced experience with fund accounting software - knowledge of Sage Intacct a plus.
  • Deep knowledge of US GAAP, FASB and OMB Circulars. Maintain documentation in support of regulations and company policy, and in anticipation of regular audits
  • Prior full charge responsibility for G/L and month-end and year-end close processes
  • Prior experience with job costing for the purpose of invoicing
  • Have a strong eye for errors and inconsistencies. Be comfortable understanding and booking AJE to correct them
  • High degree of proficiency with Excel and use of its advanced formulas and functions (i.e. Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, etc)
  • Independent self-starter, with superior attention to detail, strong analytical ability, and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines. Able to multitask.
  • Highly detail-oriented, strong organizational skills and meticulous record-keeping
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to identify process inefficiencies and propose solutions
  • Tech savvy and comfortable with implementing new processes and technology
  • Associate's degree from an accredited college or university, in accounting or related field
  • Minimum 4-years relevant accounting experience




COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS The Senior Account position is a full-time, exempt position which is eligible for a full benefits package (Medical, Dental, Vision, Chiropractic, 403(b), and Vacation, Holiday and PTO). Salary for this position starts at $80,000-$84,000
