The primary objective of the Career Center is to prepare students for employment and internships by enhancing the students' education through nurturing strong work habits and Christian ethics. Part of Concordia's mission is to empower students to become individuals of lifelong learning and service. This takes place in the workplace as much as it does in the classroom.

Location: Career Center, On Campus

Start Date: May 10, 2023

End Date: May/June 2024, with the possibility to extend

Hours: 15 - 20 hours per week.

Compensation: $18.00/hr

The Career Center is looking for an eager and proactive individual who is interested in gaining marketing and communication experience in student affairs. The graduate assistant will work closely with the Director of Career Development and Vocation on special projects to create and implement a marketing strategy to engage students in career preparation. The Center for Career and Vocation supports the mission of Concordia University Irvine by helping undergraduate students discover their calling and vocation, create a roadmap toward career readiness, and live out their calling.

The Marketing and Communications Specialist will aid in preparation for career readiness through the following tasks:

  • Helps the Director coordinate special events throughout the year, i.e., graduate fairs, hiring expos and employer panels, etiquette dinner
  • Assists in marketing the services, resources and programs through developing appropriate materials as well as advertising special events
  • Works with College Corps Fellowship to create and distribute marketing materials
  • Distributes information on internships, summer jobs, and local part-time jobs
  • Promotes office to students, alumni, and employers through a variety of marketing efforts
  • Recruits external graduate schools and employers for fairs
  • Advises students on a walk-in basis
  • Designs and presents Career Focused Workshops
  • Oversees production of program materials and informational publications, such as an office newsletter
  • Attends regular Student Affairs, Student Success and weekly 1:1 meetings with Supervisor
  • Assess and update Career Center webpage
  • Performs other essential duties and tasks specific to position

Skills Needed to be Successful

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to analyze data with a critical eye.
  • Strong verbal and written, interpersonal, and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated, willing to learn, and interested in working in a team environment.


  • Requires a bachelor's degree in business, marketing, psychology, communication, public relations, or other related major.
  • Requires enrollment in a graduate program
  • Proficiency in Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office, Canva or Adobe Suite
