Description

 

The Computer Technician’s role is to support and maintain various client computer systems, desktops, and peripherals. This includes installing, diagnosing, repairing, maintaining, and upgrading all hardware and equipment while ensuring optimal workstation performance. The person will also troubleshoot problem areas in a timely and accurate fashion, and provide end user training and assistance where required.

Job Purpose

  • To provide 1st and 2nd line computer support to clients, assisting them with hardware and software problems via phone, email, and onsite
  • Visit client sites to assist with issues that cannot be resolved remotely.
  • Assist with identifying client requirements and relaying that information back to Computer Cats sales staff.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

  • To provide 1st and 2nd line technical support to clients of Computer Cats; answering support queries via phone, email, and on-site
  • To maintain and troubleshoot desktops, servers, printers, switches, routers, vpn’s, and other technical equipment for various clients of Computer Cats
  • To support users remotely and on-site
  • To maintain a high degree of customer service for all support queries and adhere to all service management principles.
  • To take ownership of user problems and be pro-active when dealing with user issues.
  • To log all calls on the call logging system.
  • Respond to enquiries from clients and help them resolve any hardware or software problems.
  • Maintain a log of any software or hardware problems detected.
  • Support users in the use of computer equipment by providing necessary training and advice.
  • To escalate more complex calls to the relevant IT Support member.
  • To notify relevant staff to arrange for external technical support where problems cannot be resolved in house.

 

 

Knowledge/Technical Skills

 

  • Proven experience in managing IT projects, especially dealing with office moves and the related IT infrastructure
  • Ability to act as internal ‘help desk’ and provide immediate site support to colleagues with their technical issues
  • Experience in LANS, WANS, WIFI networks.
  • Knowledge of Exchange, Windows Servers including small business servers, Group Policy and Active Directory
  • Experience and confidence to demonstrate Microsoft Office features to end users


Formal Education & Certification

  • Requirements:
    • College diploma or university degree in the field of computer science or 3 years equivalent work experience.
  • Assets:
    • Certifications in Microsoft desktop and server technologies, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+.

  • Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.
