What we are looking for:


The Director of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the day to day functions of the Engineering Team ensuring that the team’s goals are being met consistent with the mission, vision and values of IT Direct: A CompassMSP Company. In particular, the team is assigned with completing significant client facing projects, providing sales engineering support, and periodically providing escalation resources for complex and/or time-consuming support tasks for IT Direct: A CompassMSP Company’s support team.

A successful Director of Engineering will be able to:

  • Coaching, mentoring, and inspiring engineering team members to be the best they can be
  • Ensure that all work completed by the engineering team meets IT Direct: A CompassMSP Company standards and is consistent with our mission, vision and values
  • Managing the size of the engineering team to meet demand including managing the department budget, interviewing candidates, and making employment decisions
  • Process management and improvement in all areas of the team including:
  • Assigning staff to projects
  • Making sure work is being completed within budget, in line with processes and consistent with our commitments to our clients
  • Review documentation coming out of the department to insure it is consistent with defined processes including networking documentation, project scheduling, and project proposals (QA/QC)
  • Reviewing processes on a regular basis to make sure they are achieving overall corporate goals, and maximizing efficiency
  • Managing the allocation of team resources to the IT Direct: A CompassMSP Company business development team for proposal design and peer review
  • Ensure the engineering team is perceived as a valuable part of the overall technical team

Who you are:

You are a detail-oriented self-starter who takes ownership of your job responsibilities, and are able to communicate effectively with teammates, clients, and vendors. You work best in a bold, work-hard, play-hard, environment. You enjoy organization metrics, analytics, team camaraderie and multitasking, all while working in a fun environment. Requirements for the position are:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in the field of computer science, information sciences or related field or equivalent work experience
  • 3 to 6 years of recent, successful, experience in managing an Information Technology team
  • Management training and understanding of management and efficiency tools such as DISC profiling, Six Sigma, Lean, and other management courses a significant advantage
  • Business unit understanding including experience developing and meeting defined departmental budgets a plus
  • Experience working on Windows and TCP/IP based networks in similar size to our client base (25-500 users)
  • Knowledge of computer hardware, including desktops, laptops, printers, mobile devices
  • Experience with, ConnectWise (Manage, Automate, and Connect), Bright Gauge, Cylance, Datto, and Storage Craft are advantages but not required
  • Strong organizational, time management and project management skills
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written, with the ability to communicate with employees, management, clients, vendors and subcontractors
  • Maintain business relationship with Vendors
  • Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, specifically, Outlook, Word, Excel.
  • Ability to think independently, solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables, but also work well as a team
  • Ability to manage staff, including growing one’s own as well as the team’s skills and capabilities
  • Responsible for Engineering KPI’s, staff metrics, training, and evaluations of staff
  • Plan and lead regular team meetings
  • Perform periodic 1 on 1’s with staff
  • Work closely with Support and Cloud Services to schedule resources
