Job Description

Counsel and advise individuals with alcohol, tobacco, drug, or other problems, such as gambling and eating disorders. May counsel individuals, families, or groups or engage in prevention programs.

Responsibilities

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Counsel clients or patients, individually or in group sessions, to assist in overcoming dependencies, adjusting to life, or making changes.
  • Develop client treatment plans based on research, clinical experience, and client histories.
  • Coordinate counseling efforts with mental health professionals or other health professionals,
  • Review and evaluate clients' progress in relation to measurable goals described in treatment and care plans.
  • Plan or implement follow-up or aftercare programs for clients to be discharged from treatment programs.
  •  
  • Facilitate 3 clinical groups per week using appropriate clinical and behavioral modalities and therapies. Maintain schedule to ensure that clinical targets are met.
  • Responsible for timely, accurate and complete patient notes in the electronic medical record.
  • Complete and sign billing fee ticket with all required components daily for each patient see so that daily bills for services can be generated.
  • Respond to emergency calls from patients.
  • Attend weekly clinical meetings with the APRN

Qualifications

MINIMUM EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a Certified Alcohol and Drug Counselor in the state of Kentucky
  • Master's degree in Substance Abuse/Addiction Counseling, or Master's degree in any field with a Certification in Substance Abuse/Addiction Counseling
  • Completed a minimum of 4,000 hours of experience within the 12 core functions: Screening; Intake; Orientation; Assessment; Treatment Planning; Counseling; Case Management; Crisis Intervention; Client Education; Referral; Reports and Record Keeping; Consultation
  • Completed a minimum of 300 hours of supervision from a qualified supervisor and this must include a minimum of 10 hours of supervision during work in each of the 12 Core
  • Completed the IC&RC/AODA exam and have a valid Kentucky state licensure

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of principles, methods, and procedures for diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of physical and mental dysfunctions
  • Knowledge of human behavior and performance; individual differences in ability, personality, and interests; learning and motivation
  • Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, and other office procedures and terminology
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • A good portion of each day will be providing direct patient care, which is in a normal office environment. There is also the need to be able to get up and down out of a chair without difficulty, as one in this position moves to the front office frequently.
