This position collaborates with the consumer to complete crisis assessments, prepares safety plans and manages symptoms, identifies protective factors, mitigates risk factors, conducts mental status exams, evaluates the level of functioning, coordinates psychiatric intervention, and provides instruction/coaching. Transitions referrals to on-going treatment teams. May also provide practical training and guidance to students and/or paraprofessional staff as required.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provides short term therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services to consumers and families as appropriate to the position.
Provides clinical case management to establish stability in appropriate level of care.
Collects data about patients through interview, case history, psychological tests, and/or observational techniques; evaluates data to identify causes of problems and to determine proper therapeutic approach or referral to other specialists.
Utilizes mental health counseling principles and understands DSM V diagnoses and methodology, medical model approaches to effective crisis intervention.
Provides and/or arranges for therapeutic interventions as appropriate for patients or clients in a crisis condition and for those with serious disturbance problems.
Follows up to determine reliability and validity of treatment used; makes recommendations regarding modification to services and service delivery.
Consults with other legal and treatment agencies and individuals in relation to patient/client record, rights, and responsibilities.
Provides accurate information regarding intake schedules, Community Reach Center, and accepted insurances.
Possesses knowledge of community referrals process and requirements for a variety of local area resources (i.e., food banks, shelters, daycare, substance abuse, clothing, legal aid, etc.)
Verifies Medicaid and Medicare eligibility as needed.
Consults with other therapists and related professional paraprofessional staff, ass appropriate, in the performance of therapy and/or casework; refers clients to appropriate service agencies as required.
