LVN Nursing Care Coordinator

The Clinic Licensed Vocational Nurse is responsible for on-site nursing care and administrative tasks related to patient health and education. The Licensed Vocational Nurse reports to the RN/Clinic Manager, FNP/Clinic Manager, RN/Charge Nurse, RN, or the Director of Nursing Services if no RN/ on site. Daily professional direction is given by the clinician(s) at the site of assignment.


Licensed as a Vocational Nurse in the State of California

IV certification preferred

Preference for individuals with the ability to communicate in Spanish and English; written and verbal

Valid California Driver’s license, proof of auto insurance and personal transportation

Current certification in basic cardiopulmonary resuscitation


Performs immunizations and laboratory screening procedures including intradermal, subcutaneous, and intramuscular injections as directed by clinicians

Performs venipuncture as needed

May hang plain fluids once IV started provided has IV certification

Prepares examination rooms, immunization trays, and instruments as required

Prepares patients for examinations including vital signs

Performs vision and hearing screenings as required

Performs electrocardiograms as needed

Assists in maintaining efficient patient flow and interpret as needed

Sees patients scheduled for nursing visits i.e., wound checks, burns, skin test readings, dressing changes, cast checks, and follow-up injections

Identifies physical, emotional, social, cultural, and spiritual needs of patients

Provides for optimal safety, comfort, and well-being of patients and others

Communicates patient care information as appropriate, to provider or outside agency

Documents patient’s medical record as it relates to specific patient needs, utilizing the clinic protocol as standard

Correctly documents unusual occurrences and completes incident reports

Assists in maintaining efficient patient flow

Completes records of reportable diseases and monthly reports as required

Assists in monitoring laboratory and other diagnostic test results and reports to supervisor or providerAssists in training, orientation and skill check-off of new staff in conjunction with the Clinic Manager, Clinic Coordinator, RN/Charge Nurse, or Patient Flow Coordinator

Provides leadership and technical assistance for medical assistant, lab and reception staff as requested

Assists in maintaining supplies in cabinets and drawers in a neat and orderly fashion

Cleans and sterilizes supplies as directed. Prepares and stocks examination rooms for use

Assists in reordering expendable supplies and medications

Monitors expiration dates on drugs and autoclave supplies

Monitors medical equipment for proper function and reports any suspect equipment to supervisor

Participates in outreach as required

Participates in nursing staff meetings


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge of principles and skills needed for practical/vocational nursing to provide patient care and treatment

Knowledge of examination, diagnostic, and treatment room procedures

Knowledge of medications and their effects on patients

Knowledge of common safety hazards and precautions to establish a safe work environment

Skill in administering a variety of treatments and medications as directed

Skill in using various types of equipment for examination and treatment procedures

Skill in taking vital signs

Skill in maintaining records and writing reports

Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, and the public

Ability to maintain quality control standards

Ability to recognize problems and recommend solutions

Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations

Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures

Ability to communicate clearly


Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds and push up to 100 pounds (on wheels)

Must be able to hear staff and patients on the phone and those who are served in person, and speak clearly in order to communicate information to clients and staff

Licensed Vocational Nurse


Must have vision with or without lenses that is adequate to read memos, computer screen, medical charts, personnel forms and clinical and administrative documents

Must have high manual dexterity

Must be able to reach above the shoulder level to work, must be able to bend, squat and sit, stand, stoop, crouch, reach, kneel, twist/turn, fingering and feeling


Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a clinic environment. May require working week nights and weekends.
