JOB SUMMARY
Community Housing Network provides permanent supportive housing, combining safe, affordable housing with voluntary services to support people experiencing homelessness and who are disabled by mental illness or substance use disorders. The services are designed to build independent living and
tenancy skills and connect people to a full range of services, including case management, recovery treatment, health care, vocational and employment support, access to benefits, money management, daily living assistance, and social and recreational activities.
The Senior Accountant assists the Finance Department by managing the Treasury functions of the organization as well as preparing financial reports, performing account reconciliations, assisting with audit preparations, and performing other duties necessary for successful month, quarter, and year-end close.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Treasury Management
- Maintain all Cash flow activities for all entities for the Agency. These include monitoring bank activity, managing ACH payments, depositing checks, initiating internal and external transfers, and issuing stop payments as needed.
- Process and import monthly replacement reserves for each property.
- Process and import all internal and external transfers (including CDFA), ACH, and cash activity.
Property Management System Processing
- Scan and post payments received from Property Managers on behalf of tenants in a timely manner.
- Review and import monthly transactions from property management system.
- Ensure property management system is closed monthly in a timely manner.
Accounting System Processing
- Process and maintain all checks as needed to ensure timely payments to vendors.
- Maintain all supporting documentation and check copies as required.
- Analyze various transactions and prepares monthly, quarterly, or annual journal entries.
Audit Preparation and Review
- Perform supportive tasks related to grants, including assembly of audit documentation, and tracking.
- Prepare financial reports including but not limited to trial balances, general ledger detail, and supporting schedules.
- Perform research and analysis.
- Ensure the integrity of accounting information by recording, verifying, consolidating, and entering transactions
Account Reconciliations
- Reconcile sub-ledger to general ledger account balances.
- Prepare financial statements.
- Perform monthly balance sheet, income statement, and changes in financial position/budget variance analyses.
- Maintain and reconcile fixed assets schedules.
Accounting Compliance
- Prepare and submit 1099 forms and unclaimed funds payments to ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Calculates and pay Commercial Activity Tax (CAT) and Bureau of Worker’s Compensation (BWC) amounts due.
Other: Provides knowledge and guidance to support organizational initiatives related to profession; Leads, guides, and trains employees, interns, and volunteers performing related work. Carries out other such duties as may be assigned or requested. Contributes to CHN activities as required. Actively participates as a member of CHN’s community.
Qualifications and Job SpecificationsEducation/Years& Type of Experience:
- A Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or business.
- 3-5 years general accounting experience or MBA preferred
Certifications, Licenses, Credentials: CPA Preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Other Requirements:
- Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite Products and ability to learn and adapt to changing technology utilized in role.
- Advanced skill and knowledge utilizing Microsoft Excel.
- Advanced knowledge of computer systems and applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and property management accounting software programs
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently or with little supervision.
