HIV Prevention Outreach Counselor

Community Health Services, Inc. is seeking an experienced Ryan White Prevention Outreach Counselor for our Ryan White Program. This position primarily works with the HIV/EIS Program Manager to develop and maintain a robust testing program. The Prevention Outreach Counselor will conduct targeted outreach to individuals, communities and stakeholders to increase testing practices. The incumbent will provide offsite screenings to high risk populations in the Greater Hartford community and neighboring areas.

The successful candidate will have:

  • 2 years of experience working in Community Health or 1 year experience working in Community Health with at least 2 years of previous experience conducting HIV screenings
  • Superior interpersonal skills with an ability to communicate effectively with diverse patient populations and stakeholders
  • Strong understanding of HIV/ST! prevention issues and how they affect or influenceservice delivery
  • Valid Driver's License and access to a reliable vehicle with a willingness to travel to outreach sites
  • Certified Counselor & Tester

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • An Associate's Degree in human/social services field (social work, public or community health, psychology) or related field
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS prevention, outreach, health promotion and experience working with PLWHA
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Experience with EXPEMS data system
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS-related illnesses and substance abuse, including current treatment and adherence strategies and knowledge of risk reduction intervention strategies, including harm reduction and motivational interviewing principles
