JOB TITLE:                       Medical Assistant

EMPLOYMENT TYPE:     Part-time

SCHEDULED HOURS:     19 hrs (M,T, &F 6am-11am, W 8am-12pm. hours subject to increase up to 34 based on programmatic needs)

PROGRAM:                       Front Office Danielson

SITE LOCATION:              Hours will be split between the Danielson and Putnam, CT locations

OBJECTIVE OF POSITION:

To provide medical assistant services to clients seen by outpatient clinic staff.

By:

  • Assisting Psychiatrist and APRN staff with medical management for clients in outpatient services being prescribed medication for their psychiatric symptoms.
  • Assisting Clinic Supervisors in managing all aspects of the outpatient clinics.
  • Maintaining contact with and consults with relevant collaborative parties as directed.
  • Participating as a member of the clinical team as directed.
  • Recording supportive care given.

Screening & Assessment:  Conducts brief, evidence-based and developmentally appropriate screening and conducts or arranges for more detailed assessments when indicated.

Care Planning & Care Coordination:  Creates and/or implements integrated care plans, ensures access to linked services; exchanges information among clients, family members, and providers.

Intervention:  Provides range of brief, focused prevention, treatment and recovery services for clients.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist Psychiatrist or APRN (Prescriber) to prepare clients for their appointments         
  • Take Blood Pressure, obtain weight, measure height and record all information in the medical record
  • Document ongoing client progress in areas that involve side relevant side effects of medication (BP, wt gain)
  • Assist Prescriber in submitting, routing and ensuring completion of lab work as ordered.
  • Assist Prescriber with “Medication Only” clients to coordinate client-centered treatment planning.
  • Complete paperwork for authorizations, benefits, correspondence as assigned
  • Communicate with primary care clinician as directed by the Prescriber re sharing of information
  • Communicate professionally with clients and their families
  • Demonstrate competency in age related or specialty issues and developmental needs for each population served.
  • Work with prescriber and family regarding referrals to other medical and treatment resources.
  • Complete assigned agency statistical and other recordkeeping according to agency policy and procedures.
  • Attend and participate actively in assigned team and staff meetings.
  • Consult with other team members, e.g., therapists, M.D., when appropriate.
  • Participate actively in maintaining a safe and positive environment
  • Keep abreast of all agency policies and procedures
  • Report client injuries and incidents to supervisor.
  • Set positive example of interaction with clients and other staff.
  • Take initiative in interaction with clients in order to set an example of appropriate relationships.
  • Keep program First Aid supplies up-to-date as per agency policy.
  • Manage disposal of hazardous waste according to agency policy
  • Maintain client confidentiality.
  • Keep abreast of current ideas, theories and research regarding treatment of individuals with mental illness
  • Participate in agency trainings
  • May perform other assignments and duties, as area needs require. 
  • Conduct scheduled and random supervised urine toxicology screenings for male clients receiving addiction recovery services.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Medical Assistant Diploma or A.A.S. (Applied Associate’s Degree) from an accredited school.

Licensure/Certification/Registration: Certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) preferred. Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred.
