Job Description

Position Overview: 

The Application Security Specialist is responsible for providing assurance for critical applications and securely enables business functions. The role will be expected to have a solid foundation in managing application security in a SDLC process.

Essential Functions

  • Act as liaison between CBH Security team and CBH application, data, and development teams.
  • Identify, advise, and make recommendations regarding implementation of applications security controls.  
  • Assist in design and implementation of security processes and workflows in SDLC.
  • Collaborate with and assist security team in modernization and support of security infrastructure.  
  • Participate in resolving problems with application security violations.
  • Communicate with business and IT staff and vendors and serve as application security SME when needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Work effectively as a member of a team, provide mentorship and skills transfer to junior staff. Contribute to sharing information about new technologies, identified problems, and discovered solutions with other members of the department.

Position Requirements: 

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in a related field and/or combination of technical school education, training, certifications and experience
  • License/Certification:   One of more of GIAC, CSSLP, CASS, CASE or other advanced security application certifications preferred.
  • Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 5-10 years progressively responsible experience in a technical position, including at least 5 years in application security; Experience in an insurance, healthcare, or state/local government environment strongly preferred
  • Skills:
  • In depth knowledge of security application best practices
  • SQL experience strongly preferred
  • Coding experience with multiple languages preferred
  • Knowledge of cloud experience
  • Broad knowledge of and experience with Windows and Linux environments
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with application security
  • Performing design and code reviews
  • Experience with application security designing, building, testing, and API security 
  • Knowledge of regulatory/compliance requirements and standards, including HIPAA/HITECH and NIST 800-53 
  • Ability to read, analyze, write, and interpret policies and technical procedures, reports, general business documents and correspondence
  • General understanding of business needs and functions
  • Strong communication and presentation skills; ability to exchange information effectively with users at varying levels of responsibility
  • Ability to prioritize tasks appropriately, meet deadlines, and complete projects in a timely manner
