Job Position Overview
The role is for a part-time Sunday Worship Director whose primary responsibilities are to ensure we are creating a meaningful and worshipful space for people to encounter God by overseeing the worship ministry as a whole and leading the worship band on Sundays.
Detailed Job Responsibilities
Work with pastoral team to establish the themes, songs, prayers, texts, and transitions for our Sunday worship gatherings, based on the current sermon series and other factors, with an average of 3-5 songs per week.
Ensure selected songs embody our church values, align theologically and represent a broad variety of worship traditions, styles and the spectrum of diversity represented in the kingdom of God. This may require researching, learning and introducing new music to our congregation beyond the Worship Directors personal cultural background and/or church traditions.
Schedule, recruit and manage band members and multiple band teams for a monthly rotation of worship leading, bringing in guest musicians when needed to fill in gaps.
Manage Planning Center Online for team scheduling and uploading song lyrics/chords.
Create and print all materials (chord charts, etc.) for the band in a timely fashion.
Communicate with Sunday production & tech teams needs in advance to ensure everyone is working together to provide a quality Sunday worship experience for in-person and online audiences.
Band Development and Rehearsal

Build personal relationships with musicians in our community, and those who might like to join the Common Good community. A continual process of recruiting, on-boarding and developing new worship team members is part of the responsibility.
Lead Sunday morning pre-service band rehearsals, or other determined rehearsals during the week
Create and update a 3-month calendar for musicians, with weekly reminders to all members of the worship team regarding who is playing each week, rehearsal times, and information about which songs to practice in advance (chord charts, special instructions, etc.).
Plan to personally lead/play on the band 2-3 times per month, or as often as needed. Leading does not necessarily mean that Worship Director has to do all the talking, selecting songs, or leading out on individual songs; but that they are the point person to organize/facilitate band and can collaborate and support volunteers to lead in various capacities.
Work with band members and musicians to write and produce original music that reflect our theology and vision as a church.
Hold quarterly gatherings and jam sessions with worship band to continue to build team chemistry and develop musicianship.
Whether leading worship or not, it is an expectation that Worship Director will attend Sunday worship gatherings and other church gatherings, for the purpose of building relationships and contributing to the community as a member of the Common Good family.
