Common App is currently searching for a Project Manager and a Senior Project Manager.


Common App's Project Manager position supports the work of Common App's mission of equity and access by providing the critical business analysis and program design skills necessary for Common App to determine where and how it will invest resources to positively impact students, with an emphasis on underrepresented students. The project manager will oversee a portfolio of projects that may be at varying stages of development (e.g., ideation, business case development, early user testing, piloting). The portfolio of projects will be determined by the VP of Applied Policy & Advancement based on existing team needs, individual skills, and strategic priorities.

Common App's Senior Project Manager position leads the identification and analysis of new develop ground-breaking products and initiatives that further Common App's mission of improving access and equity in the college admissions process. In coordination with the Vice President of Applied Policy & Advancement, this individual identifies new programs, services, and products that positively impact students' ability access, afford, and attain postsecondary education.

The Senior Project Manager creates business cases, costs, success measurements, internal and external impacts, and other due diligence to assess viability, alignment, and ROI of each initiative. This individual will lead these initiatives through Common App's decision-making process with the portfolio management office.

The position will develop, project-manage, and analyze pilots to determine as well as present recommendations to expand successful initiatives or discontinue. This individual will partner with the product management team and other departments to operationalize successful initiatives to full implementation.

Additionally, this position also supports fundraising efforts for new initiatives including funder pitch conversations, drafting letters of intent, proposals, and supporting grant reports.



This role requires:

  • Candidates must live in the United States.
  • Project Manager
    • Bachelor's degree or higher from four-year college or university.
    • At least 1 - 2 years of experience in business analysis, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
    • Experience developing business cases including market, competitor, and financial analysis of a variety of programs, projects, and services and developing business plans.
    • Experience creating program/project budgets.
    • Passionate about higher education, social impact, and access and equity in education.
    • Strong high-level business analysis and problem-solving, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills.
    • Ability to make data-driven recommendations based on research, relevant input, business needs, and constraints.
    • Skilled project manager with a proven ability to scope, develop, track and accurately manage grant projects/programs, including deliverables, timelines, and budgets.
    • Keen attention to detail, organization, and deadline driving; ability to autonomously manage projects on schedule and within budget.
    • Highly developed interpersonal skills, including the ability to build solid relationships and support among a broad range of people and positions.
    • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and diverse environment and take initiative in individual contributor work.
    • Analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and scientific research and program outcomes.
    • Ability to integrate and translate the findings from quantitative and qualitative data into digestible information.
    • Flexibility and enjoyment working in a diverse, entrepreneurial, fast-paced environment with mission-focused teams and individuals.
  • Senior Project Manager - requirements listed above, as well as:
    • At least 6 years of professional experience, including experience in strategy consulting, business and data analysis or higher education with at least three years of experience in business/product analysis or business consulting.
    • Able to operate in an individual contributor or manager role.
    • Strong high-level business analysis and problem-solving, communication (written and verbal), and presentation skills.
    • Experience performing market, competitor, and financial analysis of a variety of programs, projects, and services.
    • Ability to mentor and grow other team members.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Project Manager
    • PMP Certification or scrum master certifications.
    • At least 2-4 years of management consulting or business product management experience and is able to operate in a standalone consultant or manager role.
    • Experience working with funder-supporter R&D grants, providing program/project information to a fundraising team to support funder communications.
    • Experience creating financial models.
    • Background in nonprofit, social impact, product management, and/or education work.
    • Business analysis experience in a start-up environment.
    • Understanding of standard product development cycles/techniques.
  • Senior Project Manager - requirements listed above, as well as:
    • Master's degree is preferred, and business consulting experience is highly preferred.
    • At least 3 years of management consulting or business product management experience and is able to operate in a standalone consultant or manager role.
    • People management experience
    • Experience in higher education administration, academic research, or K-12 schools.
