Job Summary

The Simulation Operations Specialist is responsible for maintaining the CCU nursing simulation-learning environment based on INACSL (International Nursing Association for Clinical Simulation and Learning) and SSH (Society for Simulation in Healthcare) best practices. The Simulation Operations Specialist will collaborate with the School of Nursing and Health Professions faculty and work directly with the Simulation Director to support student skills acquisition and simulation-based experiences.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Coordinates strategic planning with faculty during preparation and implementation of simulation-based experiences in order to create and sustain a realistic healthcare setting.
  2. Teaches and evaluates lab faculty, including affiliate faculty, on the use of equipment in the nursing simulation and clinical laboratory.
  3. Assesses and oversees current and future needs for maintenance, replacement, and purchase of laboratory equipment and supplies for all laboratory learning activities that accommodate the changing needs of the department. Manages vendor relationships and supply inventory throughout the various rooms and simulation suites.
  4. Provides efficient and cost effective management of consumable supplies and durable resources including routine maintenance, cleaning, testing, and repairs on simulation equipment.
  5. Facilitates usage of simulation software to provide faculty with opportunities to enhance student learning. Prepares simulated clinical environments with extreme attention to detail including but not limited to set up and take down for simulation-based experiences.
  6. Oversees low-fidelity, mid-fidelity, and high-fidelity simulators. Operates simulators according to scenario guides and activity specifications.
  7. Collaborates with Nursing undergraduate/graduate course faculty to coordinate competency validation and clinical simulation including lab preparation and scheduling of students/faculty.
  8. Supervises student employees in the simulation lab.
  9. Completes other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Bachelor's degree in Healthcare or Nursing preferred.
  2. Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialists (CHSOS) preferred or obtained within 3 years of hire.
  3. Excellent computer and technology skills with at least two years of experience in simulation highly desirable.
  4. Highly organized with attention to detail.
  5. Effective and professional written and verbal communication.
  6. Proficient computer and learning and healthcare-related technology skills, including healthcare related equipment, simulation platforms, and electronic health records.
  7. Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) or obtained within 6 months of hire.

Nature of Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, you may be required to walk, stand, sit, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, speak with clarity, and have appropriate vision and hearing capabilities. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Working irregular hours, including evenings and weekends is a common occurrence. Local travel is required. Tasks involve ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, people and activities while exhibiting positive coping mechanisms. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at the computer keyboard or workstation.
