Ideal-ID is seeking a communications systems engineer to support the current Communications Technical Support Services (CTSS) program, which provides communications systems, acquisition, integration, installation, operations and maintenance support to U.S. Air Forces Central Command (USAFCENT) operations. This current position is located at Shaw Air Force Base in Sumter, South Carolina.
The current CTSS program provides mission critical communications capabilities supporting joint services, military personnel and coalition forces, primarily in the USCENTCOM AOR. Support is primarily in the following areas: Telephone Switch O&M, Commercial Satellite Communications (SATCOM) O&M, Technical Control Facility O&M, Network Administration, Installation, O&M, High Frequency (HF)/Ultra High Frequency (UHF)/Very High Frequency (VHF) Ground Radio O&M, Commercial, Tactical, and Defense Red Telephone Switch O&M, Inside/Outside Cable Plant Support, Cable TV Support Services, Communications Security (COMSEC) Management, Communications Planning and Engineering, Video Teleconference (VTC) Technical Services, Military SATCOM, and all other functions normally performed by a Communications Squadron.
The ideal candidate for the Communications Systems Engineer position has “hands on” work experience as a leader supporting installations, repair, and troubleshooting and/or maintenance of communications systems or equipment. The ideal candidate must have the technical knowledge to solve complex problems, understand the interrelationships of circuits, and be able to exercise independent judgment in performing tasks in support of communications systems or equipment installation and maintenance.
The communications systems engineer will perform the following tasks and should possess relevant experience in the following areas:
Supervision, and shop practices experience.
Fabrication, installation, maintenance, and/or repair of electronic, mechanical, and/or other types of components and equipment.
Installation, maintenance, repair, overhaul, troubleshooting, modification, construction and/or testing of various types of electrical, electronic, and/or mechanical equipment and related devices.
Apply technical knowledge of electronics principles to put equipment into operational condition and solve complex problems.
Know how to troubleshoot and correct malfunctions using specialized test and diagnostic equipment.
Modify circuitry to improve performance.
Make recommendations for improvements or modifications to correct problems.
Provide operation/maintenance instruction to customer personnel.
Prepare operating and malfunction reports and related documentation.
Work with engineering staff to determine and solve equipment design problems.
Perform quality assurance testing of assemblies and equipment fabricated by other technicians.
Provide work leadership to less-experienced technicians.
Have current knowledge of relevant technologies as assigned.
Participate in special projects as required.
Associates Degree in a related technical discipline. Or a HS degree plus 7-10+ years experience
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS
5-8 years of directly related experience
Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Routing and Switching or Service Provider
Active DoD Secret Clearance
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Lead level experience in maintenance/troubleshooting of the following Tech Control Facility equipment
- NET Promina equipment
- KG, KY, KIV and ancillaries
- CISCO Routers/Switches
- Patch panels/maintenance panels
- Fiber optic modems and interface cards
