Role: The Senior Energy Engineer role at CodeGreen sets the standard for high quality engineering work and deliverables. The candidate will have a very strong technical grasp of HVAC/R, lighting, and other energy-related building systems, along with experience scoping energy efficiency retrofits with sophisticated payback calculations. The Senior Energy Engineer will also be expected to mentor junior engineers, interface with clients, participate in internal quality control and understand how to drive energy studies to implementation. The Senior Energy Engineer will be expected to participate in industry conferences, conduct topical research and have an interest in publishing research to industry publications and white papers. Critically, the Senior Energy Engineer is a major driver of CodeGreen’s new service line development, helping to keep CodeGreen deliver increasing value to our clients and help push forward the energy efficiency industry more broadly.

Major Responsibilities
• Represent CodeGreen as thought leader in energy efficiency industry for existing buildings, for the following core CodeGreen services:

  • ASHRAE Level 1, 2, & 3 energy audits in conformance with Standard 2018-211
  • Energy auditing and retro-commissioning in accordance with Local Law 87 in NYC
  • Ongoing commissioning, real-time energy management & monitoring-based commissioning
  • Indoor air quality testing and ventilation rate procedure calculations in accordance with ASHRAE 62.1.Custom tailored energy efficiency studies and ad-hoc analytics for key CodeGreen clients

• Serve as technical mentor to all engineers, with a focus on keeping all engineers engaged and learning, lifting the quality of all engineering deliverables
• Responsible for the implementation of engineering tools & process to help maximize productivity, effectiveness, and value to clients
• Assist in building and improving advanced spreadsheet models and calculators
• Install and use testing equipment and analyze data collected
• Complete written energy efficiency reports and clearly communicating results to clients and stakeholders
• Perform research into new technologies and remaining up to date on industry trends
• Drive internal efficiency improvement through tool, technology, and process development
• Oversee Engineering-related product development

Required Experience
• Bachelor’s Degree in related Engineering field, preferably Mechanical or Electrical
• 8+ years of energy engineering experience (including energy auditing, retro-commissioning, and/or ongoing commissioning) with direct experience managing multiple projects concurrently
• Strong handle of various energy savings calculations, including bin analyses and hourly performance models
• Strong handle of cost estimation methods for energy efficiency retrofit projects, or experience managing the direct implementation of energy efficiency retrofit projects
• Advanced quantitative skills, with Microsoft Excel proficiency
• Extensive experience with large, commercial office properties
• Strong project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects on an ongoing basis
• Detail oriented approach without losing sight of bigger picture departmental goals
• Desire to continue learning and increase technical & industry knowledge

Preferred Skills:

• Professional Engineering (PE) license or Certified Energy Manager (CEM)
• Experience working with commercial office buildings, and commercial real estate more broadly
• Strong familiarity with regional and national energy efficiency policies / programs
• Strong public speaking skills
• Strong handle of time-series analytics for building and sub-system performance reporting/monitoring
• Ability to translate complex technical information to non-technical client stakeholders
