Job Description: OMB NO: 1625-0120 Expiration Date: 10/31/2021 Announcement #: 3463 Opening Date: 11 February 2020 Pay Plan/Series/Pay Band: NA-7408-04 Closing Date: Until Filled Work Schedule: Full-Time Position: Food Service Worker/Short Order Cook Salary: $10.85 Who May Apply: All Sources Location: USCG Base Portsmouth, VA MWR Wheelhouse Club DUTIES: The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of food preparation and limited cooking tasks. This position normally functions in an activity offering less than full variety of menu items, (for example, snack bar operations). Performs a variety of tasks such as grilling or frying pancakes, hamburgers, hot dogs, bacon, eggs, sausage, by watching while the items are cooking, turning as required; regulating temperature and removing when done. Measures and weighs ingredients according to recipes or as directed in the preparation of salads, desserts, juices, fruit trays, etc. Prepares toast, salads, salad dressings, and sandwiches. Prepares vegetables and fruits for serving according to instructions and/or recipes. Places cooked food in serving dishes in steam carts and food trucks. Washes and cleans kitchen equipment and work area. Keeps refrigerators, grills, equipment and working area clean. May be required to collect money, operate a cash register, and prepare necessary documentation for cash funds accountability. May assist in inventory taking. Cleans equipment in cooking and dining area. Washes dishes, pots, pans, coffee urn, glasses, and flatware. Operates mechanical dishwasher. Maintains water and detergent levels in dishwasher; removes strainer pans, inspection doors, etc., for proper cleaning of dishwasher, inside and out; removes calcium deposits as required; and restores room to orderliness. Employee is responsible for independently completing work as scheduled after initial oral or written instructions when changes or new assignments are made. Supervisor periodically checks to see that work is done on time and according to instructions. Adheres to safety regulations and standards. Uses required safety equipment, and observes safe work procedures. Promptly reports any observed workplace hazards, and any injury, occupational illness, and/or property damage resulting from workplace mishaps to the immediate supervisor. Performs other related duties as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Minimum: 1. One year work experience cooking in a food service facility. 2. Experience with common sanitation standards in handling and serving food. 3. Must be able to follow recipes and combine ingredients for fancy salads and other uncooked dishes. 4. Must be able to obtain a Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete food handler's training. 5. Must be physically able to frequently lift objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Preferred (in addition to minimum): 1. Two years or more of food service experience. OTHER ESSENTIAL INFORMATION: - Selectee will be required to participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer as the Standard method of payment for payroll and travel purposes. - Males born after 12/31/59 and at least 18 years of age must be registered with the Selective Service System, unless covered by an exemption under the Selective Service Law, in accordance with 5 U.S. Code 3378. Selectee will be required to provide a written statement regarding his registration status, unless he is exempted by this statute. - Must satisfactorily complete a Federal Background check US Citizens and non-citizens authorized to work in the US, must have lived in the US for three of the last five years, and meet residency requirements set forth below: 1.Resided in the United States or its protectorate or territories (excluding short trips abroad, such as vacations); 2.Worked for the United States government as an employee overseas in a Federal or military capacity; or 3.Have been a dependent of a United States Federal or military employee serving overseas. Exceptions may be granted to applicants if they can provide complete stateside coverage information required to make a suitability/security determination.
