General Description

The Medical Librarian is responsible for the overall management and day-to-day workflow of the library.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day operations and facility
  • Manage workflow to meet internal and external deadlines
  • Maintain up-to-date database of library resources
  • Develop search strategies to support medical writing teams
  • Review, monitor and allocate monthly expenditures
  • Monitor use and renewals of journal and database subscriptions
  • Coordinate with external vendors, negotiate and manage contracts
  • Track and process document delivery costs
  • Suggest improvements in process, software, resources
  • Participate in training of in-house and new staff on library processes and SOPs
  • Maintain reference library to ensure compliance with internal and client needs
  • Manage and maintain EndNote database contents and functionality
  • Resolve project-related reference issues
  • Participate in business development initiatives
  • Author weekly industry news report for senior corporate leaders
  • Identify and address areas of improvement for library process and revisions to SOPs
  • Stay up-to-date on industry news
  • Participate in evolving the department and overcoming obstacles
  • Deliver high quality projects to internal and external clients
  • Other duties as assigned


  • Master of Library and Information Science degree preferred
  • Knowledge of health science resources, journals, and medical literature databases, e.g., ProQuest Dialog, MEDLINE, Embase, BIOSIS, PubMed, Scopus, Sylogent, etc.
  • Excellent search strategy skills
  • Strong working knowledge of EndNote
  • Strong organizational and communication skills
  • Outstanding customer and client service skills
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, deadline-driven environment with changing priorities to meet deadlines
  • Strong project management skills
  • Ability to establish strong relationships and credibility with peers and clients
  • Expertise in data-retrieval techniques and document delivery
  • Basic computer skills and proficient in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint


  • No travel required; 100% remote acceptable
