A great election includes secure, reliable tabulation equipment, full transparency of the process in which ballots are created and cast, and the ability to audit the results. Our mission is to surpass those expectations in a way that will raise the bar for the entire election technology industry.

We are seeking an entry-level software developer. This is a 9-12 month position with the potential for continued employment. This position can be remote or hybrid. 

Your Responsibilities:

  • With guidance from senior developers, you will be responsible for using our audit tools suite (primarily written in Python) to parse, build, test and deliver data from ballot images and other election files
  • Be a contributor on a cross-functional team of Software Developers, Customer Support and Product managers and will give clear daily status updates
  • Participate in sprint planning meetings and contribute to task definition, prioritization, estimation, and assignment and will be able to clearly communicate technical details to the team
  • Solve small but complex data mapping problems
  • Review your outputted work for errors before handing it off for further review with assistance from our validation code base
  • Spin-up and down existing cloud-based services during election season for our customers
  • Document technical knowledge in a shared GitLab hosted wiki
  • You will be trained to use our audit tools suite and on election terminology
  • Complete your work on-time to meet immovable election season deadlines

Desired Skills & Experience:

  • At least a BS in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent years of bootcamp experience is accepted
  • 2+ years of work experience or internship experience
  • 1 year of hands-on experience in scripting languages Python, Perl and writing Shell or batch scripts
  • Comfortable with executing regular expressions in code
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Gitlab/GitHub
  • 2 years of experience using modern issue tracking system such as Jira
  • Experience working on collaborative, agile software development teams
  • A natural problem solver with a knack for reverse engineering who embodies a sense of personal ownership and accountability, especially in the context of tight deadlines
  • Embraces a growth mindset and a desire to learn, a tendency to embrace challenges, and persists in the face of setbacks, seeing failures as essential to mastery
  • Embraces constructive feedback and find lessons and inspiration in the success of others
  • Help to create a diverse and inclusive culture where everyone can bring their full and authentic self, where all voices are heard, and where we do our best work as a result
  • No prior experience int he election industry is required
