The Construction Instructor will deliver training to Center for Sustainable Careers (CSC) program participants to help them develop core skills and competencies related to construction jobs and safety. Certification-based training modules will lead to the attainment of construction, lead and asbestos, environmental health and safety credentials. Overall, this central role will ensure that participants are sufficiently prepared to be placed into entry-level jobs in home energy efficiency, solar panel installation, and utility infrastructure industries.
This position will require obtaining instructor credentialing through accreditation bodies including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE), and others as needed to deliver required training modules.
Deliver construction job training in classroom and hands-on learning environments.
Proctor classroom examinations for training modules.
Obtain participant certificates demonstrating their successful completion of relevant training modules.
Update the classroom and hands-on training curriculum on a regular basis to ensure the content is relevant, engaging, and aligned with the latest construction safety standards.
Conduct hands-on skills tests for interested candidates to screen their personal fitness for construction job training.
Obtain and maintain instructor credentialing from relevant accreditation bodies to deliver training modules.
Coach program participants on job skills and relevant career pathways during each training cycle.
Coordinate personal administrative tasks pertaining to calendaring and resolving schedule conflicts, and attending professional development trainings and refresher opportunities.
Maintain and apply a strong understanding of the latest construction safety standards and regulations.
Work with relevant staff to maintain an updated OSHA safety plan.
Ensure staff and participants understand proper safety practices, standards and regulations.
Coordinate with the Job Readiness Coach and other frontline staff to monitor participant progress toward job readiness and identify both accomplishments and barriers to success.
Maintain and uphold standards for earning course completion certificate.
Participate in staff and training team meetings.
Assist training staff with random drug screens as needed.
Education and Experience:
Five years of relevant experience delivering instruction related to construction jobs and safety.
On-site experience with relevant lead abatement and asbestos abatement projects preferred.
Familiarity with Maryland state regulations under COMAR 26.11.21, Control of Asbestos Regulations preferred.
Candidates with existing credentials in any of the following strongly preferred:
MDE certification as a lead paint inspector with at least 6 months’ experience in lead paint inspection.
