This position is responsible for leading groups of teenagers in daily activities with a heavy focus on arts, crafts and the performing arts. This position requires an individual with an interest in working with teens in an afterschool setting and the desire to be a positive influence on teens. He/she must have the ability to introduce and facilitate art related activities to teens and engage them in creating arts projects.
Individual should have the ability to show teens basic art techniques. Art activities will include; painting, drawing, collages, and other crafts. The Arts counselor will also be responsible for coordinating arts related fieldtrips and experiences such as trips to art museums and exposure to performing arts.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people. Counselors provide minor first aid, keep records (attendance, first aid/medications, behavior, accident/incident), assist in keeping the program... location and supplies clean and organized, participate in all activities with participants, and serve as positive role models for participants.
This position works at one of seven locations for the Teen Outreach Program. Implement art programming under guidance of program director Assist director in designing and implementing art focused activities Develop and facilitate art activities, fieldtrips and experiences Recognize and respond appropriately in emergencies Supervise and lead participants in arts related activities Assist and participate in recreation activities with teen participants Create a safe and supportive environment where participants can thrive Maintain a high quality, safe, and enriching program Previous experience working with youth or teens in recreation setting 21 years of age or older High School Graduate Prefer applicants working towards a degree in Parks and Recreation, Education or related field Must pass criminal background check and controlled substance test
