As an IT Security Administrator for the City, you will advocate for the information security needs and be responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive information security strategy to optimize the City's security posture.

Essential duties and responsibilities include:

  • Oversees the day-to-day maintenance and operation of cybersecurity systems including hardware/software, end-user equipment, the city's virtual enterprise, and backend processing and storage.
  • Conduct vulnerability scans on a routine or ad-hoc basis.
  • Develop and enhance team processes to increase productivity, efficiency, and customer satisfaction.
  • Develop, and maintain up-to-date information security policies, standards, and guidelines.
  • Promote and monitor our city-wide IT Security awareness program.
  • Establish and maintain standards and procedures for operational reporting and documentation.
  • Identify gaps in the design and operating effectiveness of controls and identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Identify opportunities for hardening the city's technology enterprise through cybersecurity advancements.
  • May conduct computer and software training for department staff to include preparation of training materials (i.e., quick user guides, troubleshooting guides, training manuals, etc.) regarding systems to be utilized by departmental staff.
  • Report on and analyze the progress of the projects, help desk responses, and cybersecurity actions.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

If you are the right person for this position, you will have an excellent understanding of best practices within Information Security and Risk Management and an understanding of current and emerging threats and countermeasures, and the organizational challenges to addressing such threats.

Qualifications and Skill Requirements:

Formal Education: An Associate or Bachelor's degree in computer science, Cyber Security, or related field. Commensurate combinations of education and experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Relatable Work Experience: 3 years of hands-on experience in a Security Administrator role.

Training (Licenses(s) and/or Certification(s): Valid Class C Texas driver's license

Preferred Qualifications: CISSP, CEH, CISA, CISM or other certifications would be an asset, as would an understanding of Cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST or CJIS.

  • Sick leave incentive pay- Employees are compensated in December each year in the amount of 25% of their unused sick leave that they have accumulated during the preceding fiscal year.

  • Retirement plan includes a 7% contribution of an employee's gross salary to the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) with a City contribution match of 2 to 1 (14%) at retirement.
  • Retirement eligibility requires 5 years of service at age 60 or 20 years of service at any age.
  • Employees also have an additional retirement fund option to participate in a 457 plan.
  • Long-Term Disability is employer-paid and covers 60% of the employee's salary up to $7,500.
  • Military leave provides up to 15 days of paid leave per fiscal year for eligible employees.
  • Education reimbursement assistance up to $2,000 per fiscal year.
  • Employer-paid basic term life insurance policy two (2) times an employee's base salary, up to $325,000 maximum.
  • 40 paid service hours are available to volunteer within our community.
  • Up to 160 hours of paid parental leave to eligible employees following the birth of an employee's child or the placement of a child with an employee in connection with adoption, foster care, or other legal placement to care for and bond with the child.
