The MICEC Customer Service Representative position is a vital and active one, ensuring the success of operations at the Mercer Island Community and Event Center (MICEC). This individual will represent the direct voice and image of the MICEC to the general public. The ideal candidate enjoys direct contact with the public, and is a well-groomed, self-starter who thrives in a position that offers new opportunities for growth each and every day. The Customer Service Representative delivers excellence in four general areas: 1) Front Desk Reception; 2) Customer Service; 3) Recreation and Rental Registration; 4) General Administrative Support, and other duties as assigned.
The Customer Service Representative reports to the Customer Service Coordinator. This individual is required to work floating day-time shifts, and may be required to back-fill evenings, weekends, special events and/or holidays as deemed necessary.
FLSA Classification/Grade: Part-time/Non-Exempt/Sick Leave/PERS Eligible; No other benefits
Hours of Work: Up To 29.75 hours per week. Will be required to work non-standard workweeks and shifts to include split shifts, days, evenings, weekends, special events and/or holidays.
Primary Duties and Essential Job Functions
1) Front Desk Reception: Answers and routes incoming phone calls; Makes outbound phone calls; Conducts regular inspections of the facility to maintain cleanliness and safety; If requested, educates the public to promote habits and attitudes that lead to safe recreation and facility usage; Handles transactions, including cash, checks, and charges; Assumes responsibility for shift reports and accountability of funds; Assists with proactive cleaning of the office and other areas of the facility as assigned; Adheres to blood borne pathogen training and safety standards.
2) Customer Service: Provides high quality customer service to patrons and staff; Responds to emergency situations; Enforces rules and policies of the City of Mercer Island; Reports any damage, incidents, injuries or unsafe situations or conditions using the appropriate forms; Greets and provides information to the public, Communicates clearly, both in person and over the phone; Attends scheduled staff trainings.
3) Recreation Registration and Rental Reservation: In a timely manner, gains extensive knowledge of recreation programs and MICEC room rentals offered; Uses the computer and processes registrations and reservations using Perfectmind software; Collects payments for program registration, drop-in sports programs and rental reservations; Books and prepares rooms for meetings or special events; Performs room set-ups and break-downs for groups ranging in size from 5 to 225; Checks renters in to and out of meeting rooms.
4) General Administrative Support: Provides various forms of general administrative support, including report generation, filing, copying and flyer design; Performs customer care calls, rental inquires and handles responses; Follows direction well; Completes reports and assigned work accurately, thoroughly and in a timely manner; Performs other duties as assigned. Must have regular and predictable work attendance to fulfill the essential functions of the job.

+ Completion of a Nationwide and Washington State criminal history background check is required in order to determine any past conviction history of crimes against persons, sexual assault or exploitation, and sexual or physical abuse and must be able to pass a thorough background check as required by the Child/Adult Abuse Information Act.
+ Completion of an I-9 Form, documenting eligibility to work in the United States.
Working Conditions & Physical Abilities
This position works primarily indoors, with some outdoor work required. The location of this position is near an exterior door that is often opened throughout a shift. Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel or operate machines, objects, tools or controls and reaching with hands and arms. Work may routinely require the employee to climb, balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch and/or crawl. The employee may occasionally be required to work in outside weather conditions or in wet and/or humid conditions. Prolonged standing, sitting, and extensive computer and telephone use will be required. Employee must be able to push, pull, lift and/or carry up to 50 pounds, with the ability to set-up various equipment as needed. Employee must be able to use cleaning supplies and equipment as required. Employee must quickly possess the ability to retain solid knowledge of facility rentals, facility operations, and recreational activities. Employee must be able to multi-task and handle interruptions in addition to a regular work load. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderately quiet to moderately loud, but may be loud at times. Employee must be able to respond and react to an emergency in an effective manner, which includes performing CPR as well as reporting to work if requested when the Emergency Shelter is activated. May be required to work non-standard workweeks and shifts to include overtime, split shifts, evenings, weekends, special events and/or holidays as deemed necessary by supervisors.
