DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Assists in the analysis, operations, and maintenance of assets for the potable water system. Engages in operation/maintenance of water facilities, plan reviews, field visits, inspections, meetings, contract management, and special projects as needed. Utilizes sound engineering judgment in problem identification, assessment, and proposal of solutions to improve systems. Employs software and hardware as assigned in order to achieve efficiency in job duties. Works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders.
This position is physically comfortable; the individual has discretion about walking, standing, etc.
This is a Houston Public Works Emergency Management position at the Tier 2 Level.EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Requires graduation from approved curriculum in engineering that is approved by the State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers with a satisfactory standing;
Requires graduation from an engineering or related science curriculum at a recognized institution of higher education, other than a curriculum approved by the Board and passage of the eight-hour fundamentals of engineering examination prescribed by the Board;
Possession of a valid Engineering-in-Training Certificate issued by the Board under the current requirements of the Texas Engineering Practice Act.
No experience is required.
NonePreference will be given to applicants with knowledge of water facility operations/maintenance, HMI (human-machine interface)/PLC (programmable logic controller), and water quality standards and regulation.
Preference will also be given to those who have experience in Microsoft Excel.
Preference will be given to candidates who possess a valid Texas Driver's License and be in compliance with the City of Houston's policy on driving.
**Preference shall be given to eligible veteran applicants provided such persons possess the qualifications necessary for competent discharge of the duties involved in the position applied for, such persons are among the most qualified candidates for the position, and all other factors in accordance with Executive Order 1-6.**SELECTION/SKILLS TESTS REQUIRED: None
However, the department may administer a skill assessment evaluation.
Factors used in determining the salary offered include the candidate's qualifications as well as the pay rates of other employees in this classification.
