Location: 823 Congress Avenue, Suite 300, Austin, Texas A Legislative Intern job is available with the City of Fort Worth – Legislative Affairs. The purpose for this temporary position is to assist the Legislative Affairs Manager in administering the legislative program for the 87 th Session of the Texas State Legislature. This is an hourly temporary position with the City of Fort Worth and no health insurance benefits are provided. The Intern is scheduled to begin the first full week of January 2021 and work through May 2021. Many students who have previously interned in this office have used the experience to gain full-time employment either in the Capitol Complex or other local governments. The Legislative Intern job responsibilities include: Analyze proposed legislation bills and amendments. Maintain updated legislative analyses in database. Monitor media coverage pertaining to legislation and related issues. Assist in preparing reports, writing speeches and writing press releases. Research existing statutes and policy issues in ascertaining legislative impacts. Monitor legislative committee hearings. Attend legislative hearings and meetings at the Texas Capitol. Assist with other policy related projects. Some clerical duties will also be involved. Minimum Qualifications: Applicants currently enrolled in undergraduate studies will be considered. Studies include: Law, Political Science, or Public Administration. Preferred Qualifications: The ideal intern will be at least in their sophomore year of undergraduate studies. Have excellent computer skills (especially with spreadsheets). Excellent communication skills. Ability to handle and organize large quantities of data. Some experience on policy issues including taxation, transportation, zoning, annexation, collective bargaining, health and safety, and economic development issues.
