Job Description

Job Summary:

Requires a thorough working knowledge of life guarding procedures. The individual has some supervisory responsibilities along with patrons. Other responsibilities include teaching swimming lessons, enforcing safety policies, and maintaining pool facilities. Flexible work hours.

Essential Job Functions:

a. Teach swimming lessons daily to all ages.

b. Lifeguard public swimming sessions to assure safety of public.

c. Clean and sanitize bathrooms and pool facilities daily utilizing mops and brooms.

d. Maintain good public relations through aquatic services and facilities.

e. Prevent accidents in the water and on the decks.

f. Rescue and emergency care of accident victims.

g. Courteous and diligent enforcement of all rules and regulations as defined in Pool Operations.

h. Scrutinize interior of pool and exterior pool area for potential hazards and initiate removal of such hazards.

i. Assist in clean-up and maintenance of pool area and admission area.

j. Attend all scheduled in-service training.

k. Assist Pool Manager in completing daily cash reports.

l. Collect pool admission fees and supervise wading pools when not collecting fees.

m. Perform other appropriate duties as required.

n. Duties involve continuous bending, lifting, digging, sitting, standing, carrying, or walking; continuous working in awkward positions and/or using force equal to lifting, tilting and pushing over 100 pounds.

  2. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
  3. Bilingual English/Spanish Preferred.
  4. Previous work related experience (i.e. cashier, swimming)
  5. In related field

Required Work Experience:

Other specialized job requirements include good public relations, and communicate effectively with the public; good physical condition, good uncorrected vision and normal hearing ability; excellent swimming skills and pass swimming test related to facility and responsibility

Experience Preference:

One (1) year of lifeguard experience for the City.

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

a. Current American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Water Safety Instructor Certificates, and CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer.

b. Requires working knowledge of pool operations and procedures.

c. Proven work experience as a Content manager

Individual works outdoors to oversee programs, occasionally indoors for program registration. The job has significant hazards from working outdoors and physical demands are moderate to high.

Physical Demands:

The job has no significant exposure to hazards and physical demands are low, but require constant fine dexterity, vision, and handling of paperwork.

Requires stooping, kneeling, bending, turning and reaching. Duties involve working with lightweight materials and/or using force equal to lifting 20 - 25 pounds.

While performing the duties of this class, the incumbent is regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; use math and mathematical reasoning; perform detailed work, multiple deadlines and concurrent tasks; work with constant interruptions; and interact with staff and the public
