Data Quality Analyst (Senior Analyst)

In this position, you perform a variety of high-level technical and analytical tasks to improve data quality. You will work closely with system administrators to research, remediate and monitor data quality issues that impact analysis and reporting.

Essential Job Functions - the basic job duties an employee must be able to perform:

  • Use technology to evaluate large datasets for quality and accuracy; systematically audit, identify and recommend solutions for data quality problems to include record duplication, inconsistencies, and accuracy and missing data
  • Work with system administrators to include RMS to prioritize and correct data quality errors, determine root cause for data quality errors and make recommendations for long-term solutions; research and determine scope and complexity of the issues and identify steps to fix the issues
  • Write SQL scripts and queries from data sources to extract data and create reports and queries
  • Develop process improvements to enhance overall data quality
  • Analyze datasets and draw valid conclusions to make recommendations based on the data
  • Determine business-level impacts related to data quality issues; works cross-functionally to understand errors and to develop data cleansing plans and or implement permanent process solutions to improve data quality
  • Create user-specified reports and dashboards within user databases, document these functionalities, and assist with end-user training and support
  • Define and developing clear and concise standard operating procedures including standards in collaboration with other members of the department and representatives of other relevant departments

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of intermediate math and statistical analysis
  • Ability to analyze data and report findings and conclusions
  • Ability to write reports, prepare letters, expositions, and summaries
  • Ability to forecast based on data
  • Ability to prepare statistical charts, graphs, and exhibits using data

Successful candidate will have

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in a field appropriate to assigned area of responsibility which may include, Criminal Justice, Sociology, Criminology, Psychology, or other research-intensive fields
  • Five years of full-time professional analytical experience specific to the area of assignment
  • Possess or obtain upon hire, and maintain, a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restriction related to alcohol and/or drug violations or pending charges

One (1) year of the appropriate type and level of experience may be substituted for each required year of post-high school education.

Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements. Ideal candidates will also have

  • Experience with developing complex SQL scripts, views, and stored procedures for SQL tuning and data profiling.
  • Proficiency and data analysis languages (Python, R etc).
  • One year of experience auditing data and root cause analysis.
  • One year of experience using SAP Information Steward or other data quality tools.
  • Experience with Socrata, Power BI, or other Business Intelligence platforms.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics or Computer Science

The City of Colorado Springs offers additional compensation depending on the position, area of assignment, and specific job assignments, including shift differential, pay differential, acting or lead, special assignment, hazard pay, longevity, cell phone allowance, uniform allowance, relocation, awards, standby, call out, compensatory time off, tuition, overtime, extra duty, incentive, holiday premium, proficiency, and vacation sell back.
