The Chronicle is seeking a Director of Marketing to join its Content Revenue Department.

This is a hybrid position in our Washington DC office.

The Director of Marketing, Content Revenue is responsible for cultivating relationships with the audiences of The Chronicle of Higher Education and The Chronicle of Philanthropy and all associated brands. The Director of Marketing, Content Revenue has primary responsibility for growing new subscriptions and maximizing retention of current subscriptions, as well as managing all marketing planning and implementation, online product marketing and pricing to achieve the forecasted revenue goals. In this role, the Director is responsible for ensuring audience engagement, meeting key performance indicators, analyzing results, and making recommendations on product development and strategy. The Director will work collaboratively with team members and subject matter experts to cultivate and fully implement the strategy throughout the organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Develop marketing strategies in coordination with the Associate Publisher for the growth of print and digital subscriptions, content products, and site registrations to ensure increased revenue from and engagement with Chronicle content.
  • Determine, evaluate, and implement technical enhancements and innovations for company websites, ecommerce offer catalog, and digital products to ensure alignment with a subscriber-first strategy.
  • Own subscriber retention, upgrade, and awareness campaign strategies to reduce churn, drive engagement, and improve overall subscriber satisfaction through the introduction and maintenance of valuable benefits.
  • Oversee weekly, monthly, and annual analysis, budgeting, and forecasting activities.
  • Develop and manage Content Revenue marketing staff in the execution of smart campaign creative and design using data-driven decision-making techniques.
  • Lead, participate in, and contribute to cross-functional strategic teams, working groups, and taskforce initiatives.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Management, Business or related area of study and a minimum of seven years of relevant experience.
  • Prior experience working in subscription or membership marketing with an emphasis on acquisition, engagement, and retention.
  • Experience writing and editing copy (submission of writing samples will be required)
  • Prior experience with integrated marketing campaigns.
  • Proven results-oriented track record of meeting and exceeding revenue goals as they pertain to sales and promotions, return on investment, and campaign success.
  • Strong digital and direct marketing acumen, including email, direct mail, and social.
  • Ability to learn new software programs as required by the position, such as Brightspot, Marketo, Blueconic, Shopify, BrightEdge, Iterable, and Adobe Analytics.
