Job Description

Position Summary As a Skilled Mason, this position will require an energetic individual who can perform skilled manual masonry work within construction environments. This position will be required to perform more complex tasks vs regular labor for specific projects/jobs with masonry/historic masonry.

  1. Must be able to lift, carry, pull or push objects weighing 50-85 lbs.
  2. Must understand safety rules and tool/equipment instructions.
  3. Must maintain jobsite cleanliness, removing any safety hazards and following material disposal protocol.
  4. Must be able to kneel, stoop, crouch, balance, climb or crawl.
  5. Able to tolerate heights without fear.
  6. Must be able to stand or walk for long periods of time, reach for, handle or manipulate items for work in extreme weather conditions (heat, cold, wet).
  7. Tuckpointing & re-pointing experience
  8. Work will occur on Architectural masonry, natural stone, CMU, historic structures, some new construction.
  9. Mortar mixing & ability to quantify appropriate materials
  10. Safe working practices and high-quality masonry skills in historic and modern brick & stone, mortar replacement, masonry injections, brick & stone patching, Dutchman & other masonry trade work.

  12. Safely install and work off small access scaffold.
  13. Due to varied conditions, must know the hazards and understand the safety requirements of each job, and must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment as required by the company's safety policies for every situation.
  14. Must be able to consistently display positive and cooperative attitude while being given direction.
  15. Identify safety hazards for you or other employees may be subject to and take all necessary corrective action to eliminate or minimize hazards.
  16. Must be able to read and understand safety rules, instructions in the use and maintenance of tolls and equipment.

Work Environment

The work is completed outside at the construction site, renovating occupied facilities such as hospitals, labs, nursing homes, etc. The position is often exposed to sounds and loud noises, such as construction equipment. The job requires they wear protective equipment when on the construction site (hardhats and safety glasses). Temperatures and conditions may vary depending on the weather and seasons.

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, reach with hands and arms, climb, or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, tolerate heights, and able to talk and hear other employees talking. The employee must be able to lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly.

Expected Hours of Work

Full time, more than 40- hours a week. May work nights and weekends, construction may sometime continue around the clock to meet deadlines.

Travel

Must have reliable transportation. Must be willing to travel 60 miles a day dependent on project location relative to where the employee lives.

Required Education and Experience

  1. Five (5+) years of work experience in masonry historic preservation work

-or-

  1. Equivalent combination of the above education, training, and experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  1. High school diploma or GED.
  2. Ten (10+) years of work experience in masonry historic preservation work

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

  1. Must complete a pre-employment criminal background check.
  2. A pre-employment drug and alcohol screen must be passed and if hired, must be subject to random drug and alcohol testing during course of employment.
  3. Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
  4. Must understand safety rules and tool/equipment instructions.
  5. Must work well with supervision.
  6. Must pass any skills tests as required by the jobsite.
