Job Description

THIS JOB IS SEASONAL AND WILL LAST 4 TO 5 MONTHS

Job Summary:   assists one or more workers in the skilled maintenance trades by performing specific or general duties of lesser skill.  The such as keeping a worker supplied with materials and tools, cleaning unskilled tasks as directed by journeyman. .The kind of work the helper is permitted to perform varies from trade to trade.  In some trades the helper is confined to supplying, lifting, and holding materials and tools, and cleaning working areas and in others, the worker is permitted to perform specialized machine operations, or parts of a trade that are also performed by workers on a full-time basis.

Primary Tasks:

  • Supplies materials and tools to Journeyman worker
  • Assist plumber journeyman worker with repairs or replacement of sinks, faucets, toilets; may assist in securing water supply for fixture or appliance repair or replacement
  • Assists electrical journeyman worker with maintenance and repair of electrical issues as directed; replaces bulbs without supervision
  • Assists HVAC journeyman worker with diagnosing issues and preventative maintenance
  • Assists appliance journeyman with routine maintenance
  • Assist carpentry journeyman with carpentry repair and routine maintenance
  • Performs specialized machine operation or routine maintenance with specific direction from the trade’s journeyman worker
  • Perform all other work duties assigned

Required Education, Skills and Experience:

MINIMUM: 

·         High school diploma or equivalent

·         Must possess a valid Driver’s License

·         Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a relevant Maintenance Trades field

·         Must be knowledgeable in basic repair & maintenance of plumbing, carpentry, HVAC or electrical trades

·         Must be knowledgeable in basic repair & maintenance of plumbing, carpentry, HVAC or electrical trades

·         Ability to obtain and maintain a favorable National Agency Background Check (T1)

·         Knowledge of acceptable construction maintenance practices including Occupational Safety and Health regulations

·         Knowledgeable and competent to operate hand tools and power tools

·         Ability to work independently and as part of a team

·         Ability to lift 50 lbs, and team lift 51 lbs. or more

·         Dependent on trades department assigned to, applicant must have the ability to complete required training for fall protection and/or       confined space training, pulmonary function test(PFT) and the respirator fit test

·         Must be able to communicate clearly (oral and written) in the English language  

PREFERRED: 

·         Previous experience  in a like or similar position 

Other Requirements: 

•           Must be able to drive a company vehicle and be insured.

•           Must be able to obtain and maintain security clearance if necessary.

•           Must comply with all company policies.

•           Must remain in good standing with the local Teamsters 959 Union

Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; most of the time is spent in a  standing position with frequent opportunity to move about. As a normal function of this job you will lift 50 lbs regularly, and up to 75 lbs. by team lift. This position requires manual dexterity sufficient to use hand tools.  Must be able to work in tightly confined spaces and be knowledgeable with proper personal protective equipment (PPE).

Environments will include a variety of working conditions.  Work environments include, but are not limited to, multiple types of housing units, industrial facilities and performing work both inside and outside by the majority.  The use of PPE or respirators may be required.
