Chipton-Ross is seeking an IT  Project Manager 3- Scrum Master for an opportunity in Newport News, VA.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Our customer is seeking an experienced Scrum Master to serve as a servant leader to several diverse teams of IT professionals developing software-centric solutions for our shipbuilders. You would contribute effective collaboration, facilitation, teaching, and coaching skills to enable your teams' success. Additionally, as your team's success enables the construction of the nuclear powered Aircraft Carriers and Submarines, your leadership will directly contribute to equipping the US Navy to effectively protect the United States and its allies.

As an agile practitioner, you will be a shepherd of the Agile tenants, removing impediments and promoting transparency. This position requires commitment to exceptional results, a strong desire for continuous improvement and the ability to employ superior communication skills to build a collaborative culture. You will ensure the integrity of the agile process by facilitating team events, removing team obstacles, and work continuously towards building a high-performance culture. In this highly visible role, you will have significant interaction with product owners and regular contact with all levels of management.

In order to perform this role successfully, we think you will need to serve three groups:

Duties to your teams:

o Ensure the development teams are practicing the core agile principles of making people awesome, experimenting and learning rapidly, making safety a prerequisite, and delivering value continuously Organize and facilitate Scrum/Kanban team events as required o Enable development team self-organization towards work completion o Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution o Build a trusting and safe environment where problems are raised without fear of blame, retribution, or judgment, with an emphasis on healing and problem solving o Proactively resolve or escalate blocking impediments as necessary o Teach/coach/mentor the team on Agile practices, especially backlog item/user story creation, prioritization, and estimation via emergent design while supporting overall organizational goals o Shield your team from unplanned work Duties to your Product Owners:

o Work collaboratively with Product Owners and cross-functional development teams on their Agile journey to support development and software delivery o Support and educate the Product Owner, especially with respect to techniques for refining (aka grooming) and managing the product backlog and team roadmaps.

o Assist with internal and external communication, improving transparency, and, radiating information Duties to the organization:

o Work with management on effective team design and development o Coordinate dependencies between teams with other Agile practitioners o Ensure your team works in accordance with their own processes and definitions of ready and done o Assess the Scrum Maturity of your teams and organization and coach the team to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for the team and organization o Work with other Agile Practitioners to recommend improvements and assist in changes to best practices

Leads and directs one or more project teams engaged in the design, implementation and modification of IT projects that span across functional organizations. Prepares project execution plan and identifies appropriate technical and business resources needed for the team. Ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget and meets technical requirements of the assignment. Keeps current on advances in the field of IT. Provides technical and analytical guidance to project team.

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's Degree and 5 years of experience.  Master's Degree and 3 years of experience.

o Minimum of First level Scrum Master certification (PSM I, CSM), A-CSM, PSM II preferred.

o Minimum of two years of experience serving as Scrum Master on Software Scrum Team(s) o Thorough understanding of the Agile Manifesto and Scrum Guide including experience with widely successful Agile techniques (for example, User Stories, Continuous Integration, Pairing/Mobbing/Swarming, Automated Testing, Agile Games, etc.) o Excellent team player with strong conflict resolution skills and, the ability to influence positive change without authority

 

PPE is required

 

Primary work location does have access to elevator

 

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's, or Master's degree is required. See required experience for equivalency.

School must be accredited.

 

HOURS:

7:30AM to 4PM

 

Preferred Qualifications :

To perform these activities successfully, we expect to see, at a minimum, the following qualifications:

o Bachelor's degree in Business, Management, Information Systems or Engineering; or equivalent work experience o First level Scrum Master certification (PSM I, CSM) o Minimum of five (5) years of experience serving as Scrum Master on a Scrum Team o Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile techniques (for example, User Stories, Continuous Integration, Pairing/Mobbing/Swarming, Automated Testing, Agile Games, etc.) o Thorough understanding of the Agile Manifesto and Scrum Guide o Excellent team player with the ability to influence and negotiate o Highly adaptable to changing environments o Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with diverse teams o Must have situational awareness with an understanding of when to listen and when to be assertive.

o Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a high attention to detail The following qualifications, while not necessarily required, could set you apart:

o Second or Third level Scrum Master certification (PSM II, PSM III, A-CSM, CSP, CTC) o Scrum Master experience over nine(9) years on Scrum teams.

o Experience on Scrum teams in a variety of different contexts (different team sizes, different organizations, different cultures, co-located vs. distributed, etc) o Track record of continued and recent education in Scrum, including training, conferences, user groups, self study, etc.

o Knowledge of scaling approaches discussed in the Agile space: LeSS, SAFe, etc.

o Three or more years of information technology experience o Thorough understanding of the software development lifecycle o Experience using Microsoft TFS/Dev Ops
