Our goal is to provide Black and Latinx students with the high quality education they deserve. For 30 years, CLI has helped educators learn high-impact instructional strategies and nurture dynamic, sustainable professional learning communities so that children become powerful readers, writers, and thinkers. CLI’s proven theory of action shows that when teachers receive the right combination and intensity of training and coaching, they can become exemplary instructors who make an impact in helping children not only achieve but become thoughtful, active citizens who will disrupt oppression in order to build a better world for all. Our workshops and institutes build teachers’ understanding of early childhood development as well as the art and science of teaching children how to read, write, think and make meaning. By focusing on professional skills that improve over time and are not lost when administrations, buildings, or curricula change, CLI helps create a sustainable culture of continuous improvement that introduces students to the joys of reading, writing, and life-long learning. Position Summary: Children’s Literacy Initiative (CLI) is recruiting for Bilingual Literacy Coaches who are committed to equitable and culturally responsive education, to be critical members of our Team! The role of the Bilingual literacy coach is a position of instructional leadership. CLI’s bilingual Literacy Coaches provide one-on-one professional development coaching to K-5 Teachers in various schools systems, throughout the country. We are seeking experienced early childhood/elementary educators who are committed to ensuring that we meet the needs of the ELL students and the non-ELL students enrolled in bilingual programming in partner school’s that we serve. You should have experience implementing a range of early literacy best practices in PK-5 classrooms, a deep commitment to anti-racism and a passion for teaching & learning. The bilingual coach is responsible for providing support in the areas of second language acquisition, developing literacy in the first language and a second language, adaption of instructional materials, formative and summative assessment, co-planning and co-teaching. While employees of CLI, Literacy Coaches work daily within a partner school where they are an integral part of their school’s Bilingual literacy strategy. Bilingual literacy coaches work collaboratively with teachers to hone their craft and implement literacy strategies that are relevant, affirm teacher/child identity, build literacy skills and foster children’s intellect and criticality. Responsibilities Provide professional development and materials to support bilingual teachers and general education teachers which will include literacy development in the first and a second language and instructional strategies for language learners Drive an instructional vision focused on foundational literacy skills development Provide teachers with coaching, modeling, and co-observations to improve and refine teaching practice Use teacher and student performance data to design, coordinate and facilitate professional development to increase teacher expertise Build trusting and collaborative relationships/rapport with various stakeholders and have the ability to navigate potential barriers to the relationships Take ownership for the development of your skills (reflect, implement feedback, engage in active practice, etc.) Provide clear and direct feedback to teachers based on analysis of practice and track student and teacher progress to assess the effectiveness of coaching Develop teachers’ capacity to collect and analyze multiple sources of data to improve student learning Deep commitment to anti-racism and educational equity and the building of an organization that reflects the community CLI serves; ability to hold self and others accountable for centering equity *Hours will vary depending on assigned school’s hours of operation. Average of 7.5 hrs./ day Qualifications The successful candidate is motivated by our mission. This role offers the opportunity to have a profound and lasting impact on literacy, thus, achievement. Must be bilingual and biliterate in Spanish and English Significant experience with instructional best practices in a bilingual setting Degree in Elementary Education. Dual-Language Education, or Second-language Acquisition, or Literacy strongly preferred Expertise in assessing, preventing and overcoming early reading difficulties At least four years of successful Bilingual teaching experience, preferably in urban setting(s) At least two years of successful coaching or leadership experience preferred Current on best practices in literacy with an emphasis on bilingual education Deep commitment and willingness to act on dismantling white supremacy and systemic racism in schools Experience exploring issues of identity, bias, and racism while celebrating the genius of Black and Latinx individuals; empowering teachers/children to use acquired skills to engage in reflection, activism and ally ship for Black and Latinx children strongly preferred Demonstrated expertise in ability to facilitate virtual coaching and professional development (as evidenced by experience using a variety of distance learning online platforms; video conferencing platforms and other virtual teaching & learning best practices) A strong track record of facilitating bilingual teachers toward instructional improvement for bilingual children Experience designing and leading compelling and relevant professional development for bilingual teachers Experience with building and maintaining culturally responsive learning environments that celebrate the diversity of the children served Excellent written and oral communication Appropriate state level teacher certification Children’s Literacy Initiative is an Equal Opportunity Employer Years Experience: 3 - 5 years Bonus/Commission: No
