Job Description

Job Summary 

The Executive Director is responsible for overseeing the administration, programs, and strategic plan of the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana. The Executive Director innovates to help the community and the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana move forward by working with the staff and external partners to continually enhance existing programs while anticipating or responding to the community needs. The Executive Director will assess and respond to the community needs by creating place-based programs that are fundable and suitable, and when appropriate, scalable to the region. The Executive Director will work to fulfill the mission of the organization and collaborate with the board of directors and staff to develop and implement visions, goals, and plans that align with the mission of the organization.

Essential Functions 

Fund Development and Community Engagement 

  • Raises funds and other resources necessary to support the mission.
  • Advocates engagement and growth of the membership and donor base. 
  • Acts as a role model for staff, members, and volunteers and for the wider community at-large particularly in relationship, collaboration, and partnership development.


Financial Management 

  • Develops resources sufficient to ensure the financial health of the organization by working to secure grant renewals/phased funding models, explore revenue generating opportunities with current partners, and seeking new grants, individual, corporate and foundation partnerships.
  • Responsible for fiscal integrity to include submission to the board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
  • Responsible for fiscal management that generally anticipates operating within the approved budget, ensures maximum resource utilization, and maintains the organization in a positive financial position.

Public Relations 

  • Responsible for the enhancement of the Children’s Coalition image by being active and visible in the community and by working closely with professional, civic, and private organizations.
  • Serves as the primary spokesperson to the organization’s constituents, the media, and the public.
  • Represents the programs and point of view of the organization to agencies, organizations, policy makers, and the general public.


Leadership Development 

  • Assures leadership development of staff with an emphasis on professional development, cross-sector training, and diversity-equity-inclusion in order to build a pipeline of leadership succession.
  • Nurtures staff directors to oversee their program’s viability and impact.
  • Create and provide framework of openness and transparency to minimize silos and inefficiencies in the organization.
  • Supports a diverse and effective management team, with appropriate provision for succession that is in place at all levels.
  • Encourages members and leaders to participate in local, regional, state, and national initiatives on behalf of children and families.


Organizational Operations 

  • Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure that the operations of the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana are appropriate.
  • Assures the proper use of management, security, and the upkeep of the facilities and equipment.
  • Responsible for the hiring and retention of competent and qualified staff.
  • Responsible for signing all contracts, agreements, and other instruments made and entered into on behalf of the Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana.
  • Cultivate a healthy and positive work environment and culture which attracts and motivates a diverse staff.
  • Works with the planning committees to develop and maintain a strategic planning process with long-range and short-range objectives which identifies the outcomes for children and families in Northeast Louisiana. These outcomes will be addressed through partnership, collaboration, initiatives, education, and advocacy.


Board Governance 

  • Utilizes the experience, support, and connections that each board member brings to the organization. 
  • Extends open and prompt communication with the Executive Board, whether if there are internal or external opportunities or issues, both short-term and long-term, to ensure the entire board receives timely and accurate information. 
  • Provides guidance and oversees the implementation of adopted plans, policies, and initiatives.
  • Encourages board and staff members to collaborate to enhance programs or seek out new initiatives in areas of growth.
  • Work with the board president to ensure the board is effectively organized and that a system of board development is established.
  • Works with the board in nominating committees to identify candidates for responsible leadership positions.
  • Cultivates healthy board participation and support.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements 

  • Preferably, Master’s Degree of Terminal License in related fields of Human Services, Social Work, Education, Non-Profit, or Business Management/Administration with five years of senior management and/or leadership experience. 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related fields of Human Services, Social Work, Education, Non-Profit, or Business Management/Administration with ten years of senior management and/or leadership experience is required.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable by Children’s Coalition for Northeast Louisiana insurance carrier and have a Motor Vehicle Record acceptable to Children’s Coalition.
  • Proven record of applying and receiving grants. Ability to secure major donor gifts.
  • Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development and task facilitation.
  • Strong, hands-on budget management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
  • Experience facilitating and sustaining collaborative partnerships among diverse stakeholder groups.
  • Ability to problem solve and remain flexible in the face of any uncertainty or conflict.
  • Experience in a dynamic, energizing environment with the entrepreneurial drive to chart a course for the children and families regionally.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Strong public speaking ability.
  • Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.
