Infant Teacher - Early Childhood Education
- Expired: over a month ago. Applications are no longer accepted.
ChildRoots is a small family of locally- and woman-owned child care centers in Portland, Oregon. We see children as authentic, powerful individuals, and our mission is to guide their social and emotional development and to foster a sense of wonder about the world around them. Our awe-inspiring classrooms are child-focused and designed to provoke curiosity and encourage inquiry, but it’s our Teachers and support staff who make ChildRoots truly outstanding.
We’re currently recruiting an Infant Teacher to work at our Southeast Center.
An ideal applicant is teacher-qualified, which means you’ve worked in a structured child care environment long enough and/or taken enough college-level courses in early childhood education-related subjects to meet these Office of Child Care requirements.
A ChildRoots Infant Teacher works 8 hours per day, Monday – Friday, offering primary care for 4 children. A cornerstone of our educational philosophy is a strong, consistent bond between child and caregiver, and this is our youngest cohort of children, so we need this Teacher to stay with us for at least a year, if not more.
Since we opened our first school in 2007, we’ve continually adapted our compensation strategy and learned that prospective and current employees alike value fair, predictable compensation. So, all ChildRoots Teachers start at $15.00 and are eligible for standardized annual raises and long-term commitment bonuses. Other centers and programs offer variable starting wages, but we’re committed to equal pay for equal work. When you receive a ChildRoots job offer, you won’t have to negotiate your wage or wonder how your offer compares to others’. We regret that we're unable to offer a hazard pay incentive at this time, but we can promise that our wages and benefits offerings will remain stable as we recover and rebuild from the COVID-19 pandemic.
If you’re pursuing a new role in child care right now, you’re surely feeling anxious about safety. We are, too. So, during the ongoing pandemic, ChildRoots schools are operating in strict accordance with the Oregon Office of Child Care’s COVID-19 Health & Safety Guidelines, offering employees and students the safest workplace and learning environment we can.
In the classroom, children’s needs are our primary focus, but – now more than ever - we recognize how much help and encouragement our employees need, too. On a day-to-day basis, we try to truly see each other and to offer emotional support and stability whenever we can. We’re immensely grateful to our employees for not only showing up every day, but for bringing their best selves.
One of the ways we show up for our employees is by offering excellent health/vision insurance (we pay 70% of the cost), dental insurance (we pay 60%), life insurance (we pay 100%) and a 401(k) retirement savings plan with a generous company match. We also offer paid Holidays, a weeklong Winter Break, and opportunities for professional development throughout the year to help everyone meet the Office of Child Care’s continuing education requirements.
All child care workers in Oregon must enroll in the Central Background Registry before working onsite, so please start your application today!
Within your first 30 days of work, you'll also need to complete:
- Pediatric CPR/First Aid Course
- Oregon Food Handler's Card
- Introduction to Child Care Health & Safety online course
- Recognizing & Reporting Child Abuse & Neglect online course
- Prevention is Better than Treatment online course
- Safe Sleep for Oregon's Infants online course
