Job Title: Substitute Teacher (Temporary On-call)         

Department:  Education Department       

Reports to:     Education Director  

 

Position Summary: The Substitue Teacher is responsible for facilitating activites planned and organized by the YNDA Teacher(s) and caring for children enrolled in Ya Ne Dah Ah School. Substitute teachers are responsible for providing instruction and managing classroom environments in absence of the regular teacherand to perform all of the duties of the teacher that they are subbing for. This position is responsible for encouraging a postivie, collaborative, educational atmostphere for the children in order to provide them with the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, spiritual and psychological growth in a multi-age setting, regardless of race, economic, background, religious preference, gender or nationality. The Subsitute Teacher is encouraged to participate in Ahtna language learning and cultural activities for assisting in achieving the CVTC mission of ‘helping our citizens to thrive.’ This is a 0-40 hours per week, temporary position with no benefits.

  

Qualifications, Education & Experience: Preferably has 6 to 12 months of experience as a substitute teacher, Tutor and/or Camp Counselor. We are willing to provide training for CNV Tribal citizens. Thorough understanding of classroom procedures and management. Ability to relate to children and reinforce lessons taught in class. Excellent interpersonal skills including the ability to work effectively with people from diverse backgrounds; establish and maintain cooperative relationships and work successfully as a member of a team. Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Strong leadership skills. Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software with the ability to learn new or updated software. A High School degree or G.E.D. required. Associates degree or two years of college highly preferred.

 

Certifications and Licenses Required: A valid Alaska Driver’s License is required for this position and the ability to be insured on CVTC’s vehicle insurance policy.

 

Drug Testing & Background Check: This position is subject to pre-hire drug testing. This position is required to complete a state and federal pre-employment background check and is required to complete as a condition of employment.
